  • Thing is, that isn’t fun for everyone. Especially with activities chosen for you, it could be quite the opposite of fun. I’ve been subjected to “mandatory fun days” many times, and all of them have sucked hard for at least one person there (not always me, but they are always a massive waste of time for me).

I don’t actually want to be friends with my coworkers (friendly, yes; friends, no); it’s nice to have totally separate groups. No drama bleed, and people leave me alone so I can get my work done. Most jobs I’ve had, I don’t like my coworkers enough to be around them outside of job tasks, and I don’t have to. We are there to work, we didn’t choose the people we work with, and I’m not interested in using my job to replace my social life, especially since I typically have vanishingly little in common with the people with whom I work. We talk professionally about work stuff and that’s it.

Plus the work doesn’t vanish on this “day off”. It just means you have more to do the next day like any other day off, but you didn’t even get to do your own thing to cause that extra workload. Hard pass.

  • I use the great fairy fountain from old school Zelda (ocarina of time specifically) as my wake up alarm, as it’s very peaceful to wake to. But still nerdy. It went with Navi going “hey listen!” Every time I got a text ;)

Mostly I use my watch alarm tho, which is vibration that starts gentle and gets stronger, and that’s plenty.

If I get shocked awake I have a panic attack. I try to avoid that.

  • I have a washcloth I got when I was like 6.. I’m almost 40. It’s a really nice mesh washcloth and somehow it only has one extra hole that shouldn’t be there, as well as a seam for the edging that needs to be fixed.

I’ve used it almost daily for my face that whole time.

But the oldest thing I have that I sort of technically use is a wheelchair from WWI. It functions as a chair in my living room. I don’t really think it counts, being furniture, though.

  • Just curious, have you watched the show with the same name as your account?

I guess it’s for kids to help them deal with trauma. I downloaded it due to super high ratings, but I haven’t watched it yet (and might not; I don’t have or want kids, but I like having good stuff for friends with them)

  • I had my uterus inflated with saline for an ultrasound screening before an ablation. It wasn’t a lot of liquid, but it was an absolute screaming amount of pain, and they said it wouldn’t hurt.. I knew it would because I’ve had several iud insertions but they refused when I requested something, anything at all, for the pain..

  • I have a similar story from 2001, 8th grade science fair.

One of the kids had a seismograph (parents) one had some bacteria thing (probably also parents, that kid was as dumb as the contents of his petri dishes) they all looked super professional and stuff and were obviously shit from books or the internet.

I fucked around for weeks in class doing basically nothing and the night before threw together a hand written display with some info I looked up, painted a balloon and pvc pipe with paint, and stuck it on. The “project” was about the impact of static on heavy machinery and the idea of applying an insulating coating to reduce static buildup and transference on machine parts, displayed via balloon, pipe, and latex paint. Totally original idea (to me, anyway) and research and they thought it was great even tho it looked like complete shit.

  • Oh shit lineage was cyanogen? I used that back in the day and loved it!

I’ll keep that in mind, thanks for the tidbit!

  • Have you read the sword of truth series by terry goodkind? Easily my favorite fantasy series, however there are 17 books in the core series, 21 total. I was also a bookworm and it killed me waiting for new releases..

The rifters trilogy by Peter watts is great surreal sci-fi, and freely available (he released it free on his own website, as well as ebook download)

  • I listened to an audiobook about the history of zero years ago (can’t remember the name, might be that one). I thought it would be dull enough to fall asleep to.

    It was not.

  • Same, but I do have a shoe box of notes (including full notebooks) my bff and I would pass to each other all day back in the late 90s. It’s full conversations with dates and everything (there were more but she had the other half)

It’s a blast reading some of that stuff nearly 30 years later.

  • This meme sponsored by tank girl!

  • So you’re saying the horses should have been used to hide all evidence of the ineptitude of the men.

    That works too.

  • Honestly the logical order. Wouldn’t expect them to be particularly successful.

  • I feel like if it was easy for him to get rid of the existing ones, he probably would..

Tho he got his kids vaxed and refused to answer if he’d do it again so there’s some chance he’s just being a disingenuous prick and fucking over millions for personal gain.. wouldn’t put that past a single “conservative”

(Wild how in the wider world conservation means protecting things that exist, while American conservatism actively seeks to destroy everything that has existed for decades.. wild…)

  • Super sorry for the delay - life stuff got hectic

I think whatever you are planning would be perfectly fine for my needs, since I don’t need much. I was more just looking to see if it already existed but if it leads to a cool collab, that’s pretty awesome too and I’d love to use whatever comes out of it :)

  • I mean I’m down but idk how to do shit until I find a guide for it 😅

So like I’m super nervous but I’m into it.

@Darorad@lemmy.world might be into this also. Idk how mentions work but now you both got one, and I feel fancy.

  • You and @haui_lemmy@lemmy.giftedmc.com would probably be good to chat about that :)

I don’t know shit about shit. I’d love to pretend I do but I don’t and getting competent people together is probably a win

  • I don’t know how to do anything techy, unfortunately, so I didn’t understand most of what you wrote.. most I know how to do is basic tech support troubleshooting type stuff 😅
