  • Oh, it's amazing. Get a head of garlic and rub off all the exterior papery stuff (but not the skin of the individual cloves. Some people also cut the pointy tips off. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Roast until soft. Get some nice bread, warm bread. Pull off a clove, hold it by the bottom and squeeze it like toothpaste onto a slice of bread. Enjoy the most wonderful garlic bread variant.

  • Yeah, this is 100 percent true. It doesn't even have to be what you do for a living. I used to really enjoy cooking, but once I got a family and had to cook meals every day, whether I felt like it or not, it became a chore. As chores go, it was still better than most, but it stopped being something I looked forward to.

  • I've never used this kind of thing, but I'm curious why you wouldn't use a typical utility knife, like maybe this kind:

    Or even an x-acto knife:

  • When I was in college, I worked at a junior high, doing noon supervision and stuff. One day I was walking down the hall when a teacher came up with a 13-year-old girl and asked me to take her to the principal's office so her mom could bring her appropriate clothes. The girl was dressed pretty inappropriately for school, for sure, with a very revealing top and booty shorts.

So I take her there and I'm to wait to escort her back. The mom comes, and she's very apologetic. She said her daughter wasn't dressed like that when she left for school, she must have changed in the bathroom. She said she was very sorry and would make sure it didn't happen again, etc.

The thing is, the mom was basically naked, She had on a tiny skirt, a translucent shirt, and no bra. I could tell the principal was completely flustered and was trying to figure out something to say, but eventually just said thank you.

  • They really do look like USB ports though. You sure they aren't run to a box where a PC would be, and let you plug in a keyboard and mouse?

  • I'd forgotten about those games. Played a little in college in the 80s.

  • I had that poster, mounted on foam core, hanging in my room for a lot of my teenage years.

  • Looks delicious

  • Congrats

  • More than just giving the benefit of a doubt, especially in dating situations, people often fill in what they don't know about the other person with what they want to be true. It's not necessarily a conscious thing, but it happens a lot.

  • One of the other managers at my work brought in a resume he got for everyone to laugh at because the guy had put being a WoW raid leader as part of his skills. I had done a little of it, so I said "Imagine getting 40 people together virtually on headsets. They're broken into three different main roles, but within those each has different abilities. You have to lead them through an encounter where everyone has to do their part, there might be a lot of coordinated moving around, and some of the mechanics might be complicated. If just one person screws up, all 40 people could die, and you have to start over. Some of the people may never have seen it before. It's your job to explain what's going to happen, lead 40 people through it, and keep everyone calm and focused if something goes wrong. How many of our current leaders could do that?"

I think I made the point, but the problem is that very, very few hiring managers are going to know what a raid leader is, and are just going to see it as playing a video game.

    More dots!

  • Mine was a Timex Sinclair. You got to each of the Basic keywords by hitting a function key and then one of the other keys, which actually helped because you could see them all. And, since I didn't have any external storage, I got lots of practice writing them.

  • And ATT Worldnet!

  • I get the personal reasons, and I realize not everyone has relatives they enjoy hanging out with. I'm older, my parents are dead, and it's just me and the adult kids, maybe some friends, so it's nice.

I look at the origins of TG the same way I look at christmas (I'm an atheist): The original meaning doesn't speak to me, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it.

  • Good points, but I really do like Thanksgiving best. I have good relatives who I like hanging out with, and it's just doing that and eating food (though I usually do an awful lot of cooking).
