How does this compare to merlin? I dont currently have any reason to distrust the cornell university department of ornithology.. but if they ever turn evil its good to know there's a backup
First time i visited italy, i ended up tipping at a lot of places (even though tipping is not a thing there), because they kept giving me free drinks... at the end of my meal, i'd ask about an amaro, and they'd bring me like 3 bottles and tell me about how their grandpa used to drink this amaro every night and lived until 100 or whatever... so i'd try 3 different amaro for free.... and order one i like.... of course i'll tip 5€ or whatever....
I'm already seeing this and regretting this in my 40s... relatively young, but a lot of little problems that my peers brush away as being inevitable, i know i could likely have avoided if i was more active in my youth.
And all thesr little issues pile up over years until people throw up their hands and say "its just getting old, nothing i can do!!"
Its all about probability. Nothing in guaranteed. But i could probably avoid a lot of issues if i was more aware and active in my youth...

"AI sucks at X, but sometimes useful at Y... use with caution." = astroturfing

Look, there are 100s of valid reasons why AI sucks and is unethical... in fact, it's pretty much 100% built on unethical methods, no doubt...
But "AI sucks at everything and literally has zero good use cases" is not a real argument, but it seems to be the most popular opinion around here.
I disagree with 90% of the pro-AI stuff out there, i'm just pointing out that its rare to hear a reasonable discussin on the topic here that isnt just 100% hate
This is the first comment section i've seen on lemmy with a reasonable discussion about AI use that wasnt instantly downvoted into oblivion for being pro-AI
Usually this place is full of the "EVERYTHING IS SLOP" crowd without any nuance as to how it is being actually used to do small tasks well under the supervision of a qualified person.
The restaurant AI slop is the worst.... even a shitty cell phone picture of your food is better using AI on your menu... i truly dont understand
