  • Actually all new accounts are shadowbanned by default automatically if they start commenting too much right away. 3 months old gives you full privileges.

  • I think the biggest threat is all the billionaires who don't want working class people getting together and agreeing with each other on the internet.

    Everything you mentioned - misinformation, hate speech, age verification - works towards that same goal.

    Reddit's product is the ability to sell people the perception of a natural conversation between two ordinary people on the internet, where the conversation is shaped by corporations and state agents.

    Actual ordinary people get in the way of that. Reddit does not want users.

  • Opposite for me. Weed made me feel paranoid when it was illegal, or when my parents would shame me for smoking. Now there are no social consequences to smoking, so I have nothing to feel paranoid about.
