I don't read my replies

  • Cool Do the 2nd next.

  • Cash Patel has improved the FBI. His incompetence means that it can't intimidate, prosecute, or oppress as many people as they otherwise would.

  • The T-15 is an awesome machine. They've spared the Ukrainians from this mighty beast out of kindness, I suppose.

  • Linux can be intimidating. And there is going to be a learning curve. Especially if you're the kind of windows user who's familiar with gpedit and has custom .bat files.

But what get's left out is the joy and satisfaction that comes with learning how to Linux. I just re-installed my OS a week ago, and I was able to recognize and resolve dependency and permissions issues without having to look anything up. I also finally learned and started using rsync for backups over SSH/SAMBA. I know it's not much, but it made me feel like a real hackerman.

The only thing I learned in my last few years of Windows was how to disable features that annoyed me.

  • They don't need you to use AI to make revenue. They need you training AI to make it into a profitable product... that will replace you.

The cliche about how if the service is free, then you are the product is only half true. The other half is that participating in social media is also unpaid labor generating valuable IP without compensation or ownership.

  • I don't care about mods or FPS in the hundreds. I care that the games are discounted to a reasonable price, include all the content, and fully patched/ optimized.

  • Believing that science yields universally true results or is the only method of finding truths

You just described science as though it were a belief system. In reality, science has a presumption that your ideals are false, not true. And a person who could only discover truth through science wouldn't be able to dress or feed themselves.

  • Doors close and options narrow. The way you think about the future fundamentally changes.

You have to remember not to project your decline onto culture, society, and the world. You have to remember that many, many things are better now than when you were young.

  • Hi, you've reached my voicemail. At the tone, please hang up and send me a text.

  • Y'all realize that the Odyssey is fiction, right? Are you going to be upset if the Charybdis isn't period accurate? What about the 6headed dragon? Look too much like Tiamat?

This is reddit level media criticism. Mindless contrarianism over focused on trivial details. At least we're not arguing over the race/gender of the cast.

  • The Monroe Doctrine was a 19th and 20th century through-line where America intervened militarily in Mexico and South America.

The biggest difference between then and now is that the Monroe Doctrine was supposed be the US 'protecting' this hemisphere from European Colonialism, and Trump hasn't bothered to lie about his motivation.

This was, is, and always will be an American colonial project.

  • so that when men wash their hands

  • Everybody forgets this. The time when "a single income could provide housing, transportation, and collage for a family of four" only existed for white men. Thinking this was universal is just lefty false nostalgia nauseatingly similar to MAGA.

  • M$ has done more to convince people that AI is bullshit than anyone else and I just want to thank them for their hard work.

  • Isn't "Geforce Now" the background service that you have to sign into? I'm glad that Nvidia is taking Linux seriously, but this was never useful on Windows. (for me)

I suppose some Linux users may find it useful, and having a choice is always better. But this is the kind of software I don't miss since I switched.

  • The other day, my mother approached me about Office alternatives. Before she retired, she daily drove Office, but feels like it's changed so much that learning a new program isn't any more friction than keeping up with AI bullshit.
