Andrea Dworkin is spinning in her grave. There's something extra tragic about adopting the token persona for someone at the intersectionality of two identities that the right hates.
the problem with tokens is that sooner or later they get spent.
Laventiy Beria was the head of Stalin's NKVD. He may not be the greatest villain, but more people need to know about this motherfucker.
Stalin introduced him as "My Himmler". Despite all the spying and torture you'd expect from the secret police, Beria found time to be a prolific rapist as a side hustle.
Nixon was not decent. The difference was that a Senator (Goldwater) told Nixon point blank that he was getting impeached and the senate had the votes to convict and remove.
Like most government officials "retirement" is getting fired.
I know when we think of politics in church you think of evangelicals and Republicans, but don't forget that the black Church has been nexus for progressive politics since forever.
I bring this up because a misguided attempt to reign all this in would give a powerful tool to those who'd suppress Democrat voters. (If you ever wonder why Republicans hate Sunday voting, you probably haven't seen the church bus pull up to the polling station.)
Why? I'm not trolling, I just really think it's interesting where people think "rights" come from. Some people think they come from God. Which is great, because in this scenario we are God. So anything we do is ethical because we did it.
I contend they come from States. Because I notice that rights are different in different States. And I don't think a god would obey jurisdiction.
Another way of saying this is that the beings themselves have to recognize and demand rights. Because a state is just people deciding things after all.
So where do the rights come from? Are they a legal/socail construct, or inherent in the universe some how? Some third thing I didn't think of?
Of course science is political. Knowledge is power and all power systems are political.
But ignoring philosophy, Science is a charity. By in large they must beg for their money. You don't suppose that the people providing the money have any influence?
And I'm not talking about junk science, biased studies, or even fraud. A perfectly run study may still be political simply because it was chosen for funding over something else.
Pihole has similar functionality, and it's FOSS.
