  • In both instances, you're the moral agent who gets to decide. And it's not our advantage in intelligence or wisdom, it's our advantage in mass.

    Morals have power dynamics, CMM.

  • We can hear you fine Mario, but our princess is on another zoom call.

  • I make cornbread all the time, and would never consider cooking it in anything other than a cast iron. Does your recipe call for pre-heating the pan?

  • They are however partisan hacks.

It's worse than that, they're actively corrupt. Robert's or Alito's Judicial philosophy is as irrelevant as Thomas' racial identity; they believe in getting paid.

  • I would argue that misogyny and racisim are ascendant in our time.

Sure, open racism was much worse, but they also were in the aftermath of 2nd wave feminism and the Civil Rights movement; things were getting better.

It's those very strides that have aggravated the backlash we see now; things are getting worse.

So I'm not saying 1970 was better than today, but I'd argue that the early 2000s were.

  • This had made many people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

  • I've never seen a single video on Lemmy of a dude punching a woman. That shit is on the front page of reddit every day.

Each individual video seems justifiable. Usually the girl is assaulting the dude first. But you have to wonder why videos of that act is a whole fucking genre into it'self.

  • What's going on with Dawkins? I have followed his decline with interest.

I saw a YT video last week that referenced Dawkins' work, and I was like, Oh yea, he used to be a respected scientist before he became an Epstein Island public bigot and TERF. Fame did to Dawkins what the One Ring did to Gollam.

  • There are plenty of legitimate reasons to gather racial data. Knowing that black Americans are more susceptible to high blood pressure isn't racist.

  • By attacking the UAE port that's not behind their blockade, Iran is signaling that regional oil production are going to be it's primary targets should hostilities resume. They have missiles and drones left and refineries, ports, and pipelines are hard to move out of the way. They also, with the help of their allies, they could bottle up the Bab-el-Mandeb (straight between Somalia and Yemen).

  • The problem was that the work tasks were supposed to occupy the students as well as teach them. The teacher was annoyed because this kind of student requires more attention than a student kept busy for the allotted time.

The idea that educating students is the primary goal of school at any level is naive. Everything up to the High-School level is half job-training and half daycare. Education is something that the student may pursue, but it's optional.

  • Humanoid robots are never going to be a thing. We just imagine that because it's what we're used to, work being done by people. Kind like how the first cars looked like carriages.

Why in heaven would you design hips, legs, knees, balance, and coordination, when wheels exist?

  • A lot of people look down on this type of humor but I think it's healthy for young boys to imagine what sex is like.

  • For the longest time, Windows defender would flag .7zip compression files as a Trojan. It would automatically delete the file as soon as I had created it.

  • Cutting ropes is a thing that only happens in movies. They don't have Boyscouts in California I guess.

Every conceivable use for a rope has a knot that will accommodate it. Knots that don't bind when under tension are a whole genre.

  • Apple products are great. The Apple ecosystem is not. If you like FOSS, you're going to have a bad time.

Putting music on my iPhone sucks because iTunes won't recognize or transfer .FLAC format. File sharing on iPhone is really inconstant and buggy. And I need a whole 3rd party app to get the data moved. Or I can upload things to iCloud 5GB at a time.

  • Most of the batteries in EVs are still in service. As the tech ages, their is going to be a need for a robust recycling program. Led-acid batteries (the kind in gas cars) already has a 90+% closed supply system which means the primary input for new batteries is old batteries.

With robust recycling, resource extraction can actually go down even as we use more and more batteries.

  • I used to work at Blockbuster. (am old)

They required a credit card to open an account. They would charge this account for late fees if you hadn't paid them in 30 days or so. Their computer system didn't check for valid credit card #s. The entire time I worked there, I misstyped almost every credit card number on a new account.

Obviously with people changing accounts and cards expiring, the failure rate when we charged these accounts was always high and nobody ever said anything about it.
