I think along similar lines, but I've taken a third descriptor onboard: disaster-prone. A mirthless history professor once told me that "history is a litany of unintended consequences". Everything about the world and our history makes so much more sense if you mentally allow for the fact that we as a species tend to make rather absurd mistakes at scale, and now at the height of our global culture, our powers at their greatest, our need for common sense, tolerance, and cooperation at their most urgent in history due to impending climate collapse, geopolitical tension, and wealth inequality, the most powerful nation in history elected, twice, the most foolish, wicked man alive.
A single person is still intelligent and prosocial. I sincerely agree. But humanity i think has a critical mass at which point all of that is hidden behind layers of systematically disastrous behaviour.
A coup doesn't have to succeed in order to destroy a republic... All that has to happen is they aren't tried for high treason and hanged, and sooner or later the rules stop mattering.
Kinda it. Everyone thinks their position is just average common sense. You only really get to the point of saying "I'm pretty far ____" if you've been actively alienated by others but just dug in your heels instead of changing your mind.
I suspect most people who don't have political thought as a large part of their identity don't really have a well integrated worldview with good internal consistency. Few enough active political thinkers do, after all! It might not be that useful to describe everyone in aggregate along a spectrum.
I'm fine with any exaggerated hot stuff in comics, but the victim mindset Jago displays is a big turn-off. Just be a milder, less funny version of Oglaf and take that as the W it is!
I guess. I think with any single winner system you'll encounter gamesmanship, and enough proportional representation can smooth a lot of that over anyway
I didn't mean to say he was innocent of anything. His crimes are well known; but they were done in service of moneyed interests who were the real decision-makers behind it all.
He was just a feckless chemist, better to blame the DuPonts, GM, and other moneyed interests who have depended on such useful idiots and the corruptability of the US government since its earliest days.
I was a big proponent of approval voting for over a decade, and I still would prefer it over most systems. But I really like STAR voting now as well, and have actually used it in the home to pick what to watch on movie nights. STV seems pretty decent too.
