  • Somehow both. I have albums from when I was eleven that still hit, but I'll also listen to stuff like post-punk, dark ambient, and witch house. Lot of game soundtracks, vaguely satanic sounding darkwave, but then suddenly I'll retreat into Green Day's Insomniac for a 479th time.

  • A lot of old things are really good, but there are so many new things that the really good ones are easier to miss. Then dudes make comics about new things being bad. So it goes.

  • You really feel like you deserve an answer, don't you?

  • I'm someone in the UK.

  • I was ranting about this the other day, I'm afraid that most people, at least most Americans, are not good enough at standing up to authority for America to fundamentally work as it is supposed to. Some jobs, especially in politics and law, inherently require a pathological John Adams-like willingness to be a problem for the whole ship to stay afloat.

  • The older I get, the more I agree with Calvin's dad. Adjusted for inflation, he wished gas was about $20 per gallon. Let's fucking do it.

  • Are Democrats feeling the Bern at last?

  • I totally get where you're coming from. It's hard for me not to view the US (being a recovering seppo myself) as an empire doomed to walk the path of all empires. I still really love the idea of a country based on rule of law by the consent of the governed and all that jazz. But, at some point I stopped believing the US government is even able to reform itself adequately in its current form. Too much of that apparatus is of no interest to anyone who could have a positive impact. The sheer un-coolness of local politics means only the deeply uncool get involved. To say nothing of the bad campaign finance laws!

I wish I knew enough about Australian politics to make a worthwhile comparison. For what it's worth, I think the main thing that makes a government unfit to be reformed is sheer size - your government could never be so large as the US one, so at least there I'm hopeful for positive change towards more stability. Just don't let them build empires!

  • I think the US has failed to plan for the long term enough that it no longer has to 🫠

  • Literate, possibly

  • The business plot wasn't treated as treason. They should have strung those rich fuckers up. Now the same sort of fuckers are going to succeed.

  • This tyranny of swine is brought to you by Moneyed Interests! When you need to subvert all aggregate human endeavour, think Moneyed Interests!

  • Part of it is I don't know how skin particles will act inside a space station. Are there static electricity forces that would make it stick to surfaces, or does it remain suspended in air until the filtration gets to it?
