I have Restic scheduled to back up the PBS folder, photos, etc. multiple times per week. My restic script excludes large replaceable things like video files.
Backblaze announced recently that they're switching to everything being encrypted on their end. It's already encrypted coming from my server, but I guess it'll be double encrypted? The only caveat is it only applies to new objects, so I plan on making a new bucket and starting my backup from scratch.
I'm not sure about IRAs, but for 401(k) you can exceed $24.5k of personal contributions by making After Tax contributions.
Then, if your 401k account supports it (Fidelity does, but I'm not sure if it depends on your company), you can have the After Tax contributions automatically converted to Roth.
The problem with After Tax is you've already paid taxes on it, but also have to pay taxes later on earnings (so might as well put it in a normal investment account at that point). By converting it to Roth you don't have to pay taxes on earnings.
This applies to personal contributions. Company contributions and personal contributions combined have a higher limit ($72,000).
This is usually called "mega backdoor roth", and from time to time there is talk about closing the loophole.
There are two of these in my little town. One of them was right outside my neighborhood and it got cut down earlier this month and I'm super happy about it.
I posted about them on F-book (it's either that or Nextdoor when trying to reach people locally) when they were first installed and there were a lot of boot lickers. "It helps the police so I'm all for it", etc.
Someone else posted more recently the the mood has shifted substantially since a year ago. People are more aware and more upset about them.
What sort of car are you a fan of? I sort of felt the same way but then Subaru (by way of being owned by Toyota) came out with an electric station wagon that mostly looks like a normal car. It's great.
I don't know if it has better than average battery life, but I only need to charge my phone when I'm sleeping. I only charge it to 80%, too. Sure it's better to have a headphone jack, but when life gives you lemons, etc.
It's also against the NEC in the US, I think. People expect low voltage wires to be low voltage and handle them as such. If a high voltage somehow ends up touching a low voltage bare wire, your friendly Ethernet cable could turn deadly.
