    I see the largest two camps here as (1) casuals that don’t have the know how to protest via alternatives and (2) the tech literate that are willing but ultimately limited by the larger forces at work.

    I think it’s fair to blame the people with the power that exploited the first group and left the second without choice.

  • Haha I actually love having a blank Home (and especially blank Shorts) since as it has significantly moderated excessive YT use for me. I’m honestly surprised that was their course of action as it ultimately had reduced my use of the app.

  • For a while I’ve been meaning to memorize all the two digit squares but of course I then fail to practice them, so I’m not very far along. But that would help you with this too, not to mention you can start doing some square roots too.

    For quick and dirty I’d probably just go with 37*38 = 40*40 -> 16% which is kinda close to 14% eh?

  • You got me thinking about this. I thought it would be more common in the classical era with key names in the title, like Sonata in Eb or whatever. Having chatted with an LLM about it, that case doesn’t seem that common once you start considering Opus and Symphony numbers. I think you have to be a bit tricky to pretend that this happens often during that era (or maybe the opus numbers came after? I don’t know).

    But in “modern” pop it looks like it happens a lot (from ChatGPT):

    Which case / level of pedantism were you thinking of?

  • Fair point but they aren’t exactly hermetically sealed either. I’d expect a lower atmospheric pressure to impose a stronger gradient between skin and vessels. Like if you can get the bends from ascending from depth too quickly, shouldn’t something happen in this case too?

  • I was impressed when iTunes added the option to get your album in .flac. And while I acknowledge there’s a lot of placebo effect with audiophillia, I still argue space is cheap and you never know how good your ears and sound system may get in the future.

  • I believe you so this is a genuine question: did you ever test your kbps threshold for being able to distinguish from lossless?

    I remember in the MP3 and Winamp days, I was convinced I could detect anything below 192 kbps. Obviously depends on the content, and I’m implying 44 kHz minimum.
