  • I’m not advocating for the US style of health insurance. I’m saying this specific case, if the medical commentators in this thread are to be trusted, may have ended up the same way in a non-profit model.

  • But even if you made the insurance system completely non-profit, there’s no upper bound on how much you can spend on each individual. You’d still run into cases where you have to distribute a limited number of resources.

  • This is interesting and I get the appeal, but I’m too afraid of pirates to just live without a nation’s protection.

  • As a guy I don’t see how it affects me. It’s literally one man shown in the image. I did not get a feeling of “Great now they’ll think we’re all like that” or “Oh geez you mean people hate when I say those things to them?”. All I have to do to not be lumped in with that guy is to not do that one specific thing in the comic.

  • Can you elaborate?

  • There’s a lot of that out there. I’ve definitely become jaded to the point where I will rarely adopt a new show unless I know it’s a limited or finished series, and one that didn’t just keep renewing until they couldn’t make money one upping themselves.

  • Holy crap I was about to use the same yuck someone’s yum phrase to make the same point. Keep up the good work hive mind.

Edit: To clarify, in response to the shit storm of replies you got, I meant specifically that’s my issue with Marvel movies, and I assume that’s more what you meant, not all fiction ever.

  • I don’t know why I kept tightening them. I never found myself in a situation where the connector was falling out if they were left unscrewed.

  • This is unexpectedly poignant.

  • I’m a convert. After seeing LLMs do it, and now that all platforms have easy interfaces to access them, I use them in my note taking to help memory mapping and chunking.

  • Ok I RTFM but I’m still lost. Partly I don’t know enough about headers to understand the -H flag, but also:

What provides the new location to curl when the attempt fails? The web server of the site at the IP you specified?

How does one obtain the IP in the first place, I thought this discussion was about alternatives to DNS.

  • I hate it too but is there an alternative?

  • Ugh yes. Podcasts are so low density for information per minute. No offence if that’s what you’re in the mood for and it can certainly fill a long commute / chore. Just really not my cup of tea.

  • I put my database within the path that’s mounted to my nextcloud container. KeePassium on iOS lets you connect to WebDAV which is one way to have Nextcloud host it. It’s good about letting you access the database offline if you lost connectivity.

3:2:1 backup can still happen via whatever method you use for all the rest of your files. So far this is working fine (albeit a bit slow at times) on an RPI. Remote access via Wireguard VPN.

  • Thank you, that’s fascinating. Not exactly aa egregious as a smart phone constantly sending out mic and cam data. But it’s nonetheless interesting Kash is being so open about it. Comes across to me as marketing the idea to the public that “if you let us and corporate America spy on you, we will keep you safe”.

  • Can you link to the evidence from the Guthrie case?

I’ve always figured it was theoretically possible. Interested in any cases of it in the wild.

  • Btw

  • Oh man thank you, I can’t believe I was right about the Heritage Minute. Miss those!
