  • Best part is most of their stuff has cad files on their website. Working at a company where everything needed a drawing, being able to email the cad team like "hey, I need to swap part 15 on fixture 12345678 for this other part. Drawing for new part is attached" was a god send as I would get the drawing updated and sent back in like 10 minutes.

    Also 1% discount means nothing when grainger is anywhere from 10% to 2000% more. My company did one worse and made a deal with a 3rd party who mainly purchased from grainger. So what we were supposed to do was go to grainger.com find what we need, copy part number, go to third party site, fill out a form including part number, wait 48 hours, get a quote from third party, go onto another site to request purchase, wait for boss approval, depending on cost wait for their boss's approval, finally click purchase button, wait for shipping, receive part directly from grainger in grainger box. It lasted about 6 months before it was reversed.

  • My understanding is there was a group that was saying to combine stuff by use. So you have a class to determine total price, but you sell liquids priced by liter, gasses sold by cubic foot, and solids sold by quantity. Each of those are controlled by separate departments and require different methods of calculating price.

    DDD basically says to group everything for liquids together, everything for gasses together and same for solids. Don't group by process but by who uses them.

  • True just like we can't go back to the time before the internet. Some companies have a good business which happen to use Ai, they will likely be fine. Some companies only exist because they claim Ai and survive on vc money, they will likely die.

    There are uses of Ai. There are smart uses of Ai. There are incredibly stupid uses of Ai. There are some uses of Ai that are stupid now but will be industry standards in 30 years (think Netflix in late 90s) due to advancements in technology. If you know what companies will be which you could be a billionaire which is what people are betting on. But they are bets, no one really knows what will stick and what will burn...

  • There was a decent amount of internet back then although not as much as there is now. The issue was people giving millions to any company that had a website. Websites were being made for everything and shoved in everyone's faces. Like I remember there was a block of cartoon on wb11(animaniacs, freakazoid, etc) and they had ads on during the block for the website of the block, which didn't have a url but a "AOL keyword" you could look up to go to. Nothing to sell, not really any tie-ins just like "do you want to see more from wacko, yacko and dot? Ask your parents to go to AOL keyword whatever the cartoon block was called."

    My guess: it seems very similar to the dot Com bubble. Once it pops a lot of companies will lose a lot of money in the valuation and many will likely close their doors. But some will still exist, which are those with good business plans and a reasonable profitable business. Yes the dot Com bubble burst but there is still an internet. Companies basing their business on venture capital based on their valuation will likely crash and burn. A company forcing "Ai" for marketing or such will fail. A company with a good base business which happens to use Ai will probably be fine. For example a company making sandwiches to determine what sandwich you actually want to order probably will fail. A company who happens to use Ai to estimate how much of each type of meat and vegatables to buy each week based on recent use/sales will probably still be fine. Once the bubble burst companies who are only valuable because of marketing as "Ai" will likely die. There are uses but it's not everything but they are trying to shove it in everything.

    It has 128 languages, it starts with ruby which prints out its own source code in Scala, then the Scala program executes to generate the next source code, repeat for 128 languages and eventually returns to the original ruby code.

    For extra fun, look at the source code on a large monitor.

  • ? I'm confused... What does my post have to do with placebo? I know the placebo effect and how double blind studies work. But it has little to do with that statement that proving a claim should be the requirement instead of requiring proof of a negative.

    If I claim you're an armadillo, proof should be on me to provide evidence of you being an armadillo. You shouldn't have to prove you are not one. Any claim on anything with no evidence to show it is true should be discarded.

    It has nothing to do with placebo.

  • You are right with all those facts. My point was that it's religion's responsibility to prove their beliefs. I can't prove their is not a deity and I shouldn't have to. It's their responsibility to prove there is one. I can't prove there is not a heaven, it's their responsibility to prove there is one.

  • Marketing and pr pressure to be able to use the term "Ai" because it's the current hype. Everything is now Ai. It's now a meaningless term. Image processing, data calculations, language interpretation, language generation, all claim to be Ai. If your product has Ai it now tells me nothing about what it does.

  • Based on how open source currently is funded and it's a random github source. I wonder if, hypothetically, could iran send the owner a dm offering say $500k and get complete access to the phones of everyone running this app. I could see this being default installed on company phones if you work for the white house or federal government.

    Don't make the github changes noticeable, keep the app working, but for example when it checks your location and sends that home imagine a slight change to also include complete browser history or list of installed apps.

    One of trump's yes men receives a message "do what I ask or I'll publish that you have grindr installed, your account name, and all the people you swiped right on..." that could give them insane power over the US government.
