  • I integrate Miniflux with readeck, which is then combined with a readeck plugin for koreader, allowing me to easily read articles on my ereader, without relying on a paid service.

    I'm also one of those people that still uses custom ROMs on Android, and since the backup and restore situation is still kind of dire if you don't use Google (and sometimes even with) it's easier to have most of my configuration and state stored on a server, and so I can wipe a phone with relatively little risk.

    is incorrect, as you've mixed a package path with an absolute path. Additionally, on my system at least, reboot is a part of pkgs.systemd and not pkgs.coreutils.

  • You could use tailscale or netbird. Alternatively, you can use a dynamic DNS provider which usually provide free subdomains, if you don't want to pay for a domain. And even with all of that, Jellyfin doesn't require HTTPS, although there may be clients that do (make sure you're behind a VPN in this case).

  • The way I handle it is with a Garmin watch using GadgetBridge, with the HRM in turn synced to the watch. No cloud connection is needed (and indeed, I've revoked consent to any data upload).

    Of course, this costs additional money since you need a supported GadgetBridge watch. There does look to be initial Polar H10 support if you're willing to switch to a different HRM, which would be cheaper than getting a watch, although that may be worth it for the additional data etc.

    They do look to be optional at least. I'd probably be a bit more concerned if the code was largely written with LLMs, given the large number of commits in what looks to be only a few months.

  • Does it support heart rate reserve? If so, use that. Beyond that as long as your runs roughly feel like they should for each zone it's okay as it's not an exact science.

    EDIT: Reading your original question more carefully, high HR isn't really dangerous if you don't have an underlying health problem, it's just not an effective way to get faster if that's all you do. Most people gain improvements from a mix of short, high intensity interval sessions, and longer low intensity runs. The general rule is 80/20 in favour of "easy" runs in terms of distance, but this matters more for people who are doing very large volumes. Nevertheless, you should be doing a greater volume of slower runs in terms of distance over a given period.

    The reason is that people generally can't tolerate huge volumes at high intensity. Since high volume is a big part of improving fitness, a mix of the two intensities is important.

  • To begin with, make sure your max HR and zones are all reasonably correct. You say your max is 194, but it's not uncommon for the real max to be a decent amount higher than what you see in regular runs, unless you truly pushed yourself the absolute limit.

    I'd use lactate threshold heart rate to calculate your zones, if your hardware/software supports it. Prefer a proper strap over a watch as well if possible.

    Beyond that, you're just going to have to run slower than what you are used to, to stay in the lower zones. Try to do it with good technique and reasonably high cadence. If you can't run slow enough, throw in some walking in between to get your HR down.

I suppose hardware manufacturers will be okay with this outcome but I'm not sure how these heavily inflated software companies will profit under a local first world. So we are back to the bubble deflating or bursting.
