I like computers, trains, space, radio-related everything and a bunch of other tech related stuff. User of GNU+Linux.I am also dumb and worthless.My laptop is ThinkPad L390y running Arch.I own RTL-SDRv3 and RSP1 clone.

    Could that perhaps be an issue of stupid licensing? With, smart licensing, or whatever, if the license is non-transferable, then the hardware is basically an expensive paper weight.I've heard Cisco used to give out Meraki devices for free on some events, because without a license they were totally useless. Until someone figured out how to run OpenWRT on them.

  • The world sucks right now for employment you might as well take a shot at a dream job because you never know what happens!

    Well, I absolutely could get training for position of train driver.Except...As far as I know, you have to agree to a contract to work for that company for at least 5 years.Otherwise, I'd have to pay them back for that training. How much?I don't know what it's now. First I heard from someone, they mentioned it being EUR 21,000. But recently I overheard a train driver talking to a coworker about the training costing EUR 31,000.Either way, in a country where the minimum wage is EUR 5.26/h... OOF.

    Although I'd have to ask for official information, as this isn't mentioned in the advertising they do.But it would explain the eternal shortage they seem to have.

  • Sorry if I wasn't clear, I am not. I am just usually imagining what happens in edge cases. Since I am in an English study programme (I honestly find English easier in relation to IT) I get the same information the foreign students do.And I can see how fucking shitty it is.The problem is they didn't even translate the instructions to English, and further only gave them a 12 hour window until the deadline to figure things out. Ironically, the instructions highlight to really think about the decisions you make with the subjects selected (some expect prior knowledge you may not yet have). Think about it when? There's also limited number of students to be accepted for each subject on a first-come first-served basis. Basically, a game of battle royale, but there were no instructions, and the game has already begun.

  • A fox. It (I don't know whether male or female) was in a city. It didn't seem too fearful of people, so I tried following it. When we got to a darker area it sat down, and so did I.

    When it got up, I followed it, ending up on volleyball playground. With sand. The fox started running around in it. I noticed it would kick some sand, then jump there.So I squat down, and threw a handful of sand to the side. This did work. It approached me to arm's reach, but would spring away at any movement. I accidentally scared it off when the fox circled very closely around me and I turned around - I was worried about getting peed on. Foxes do that a lot.

    Some 40 minutes later, I lost it at a construction site.

    I completely lost the sight of it after I circled around to enter there.

    Anyway, not a picture, but I also have some bit of video:

    All is B&W because I used IR camera. I don't know how much of that foxes see, but I hope it's at least far less than if I used regular flash.

  • Try it in a (proper) computer. I've had a phone complain, but it mounted on Linux. And after whatever magic fsck.fat does, it mounted on phone too.I also had a SanDisk fail read-only.

  • We have that available, I just use mobile data because I disagree with their ToS.The ToS is so restrictive that you basically immediately break it after connecting a device. I was told that, of course, they don't really care.Except - there is a point stating the provider has the right to access your computer if there is a suspicion of ToS violation. Considering the network here is a student-run organization, that could easily be exploited if you piss off someone.Maybe I am just paranoid, but no thanks.

    Otherwise, from talking with them, most dorms have 1Gbit, some have 2.5Gbit, and all share a 40Gbit link which could apparently do 100Gbit (I think), but it's capped due to licensing.They leverage national academic network.Oh, and they also got a class B subnet back when everyone was sure there's just way too many IPv4s, so NAT isn't being used here.
