I'm just one random nerdy trans girl. ...Oh come on, you've been around fediverse, surely you've seen us around?

Mastodon: @umbraroze@tech.lgbt

  • Yeah, for most things, GIMP user interface is absolutely fine.

Most of my mild grumbles about GIMP are not really usability problems, rather just features that would be nice to have. (We got better layer groups now, yesss. Non-destructive plugins are finally within the viewing distance. Yay.) There is stuff that GIMP doesn't do but competing open source apps do, and while there's interoperability, it could always be better. (I hear GIMP is finally going to come up with a replacement for xcf files, hope they cooperate with Krita devs and blow the dust off the OpenRaster project.)

The only really aggravating GIMP usability thing is that exporting is very janky (would rather have one single unified export dialog with all the settings), but I assume that's just a thing because of the way GIMP file plugins have worked in the past.

  • In the DVD I have, there's this hilarious behind the scenes clip where the T-Rex animatronic starts twitching and jerking when exposed to the artificial rain, Steven Spielberg watches stuff unfold with his jaw on the ground, and the folks try to dry the animatronic up with towels (as seen here).

Can't get this shit on streaming services, tell ya what!

  • Yeah, you can get them from Ipkea, but note that it's only available as flatpak from them.

  • I literally got Signal because my sister told me to get on it. That's the only contact I have on Signal.

When the Recent Fascist Takeover happened, an American friend asked me for app opinions - I told him Signal was great, aside of the fact that the desktop app keeps getting updated every femtosecond. ...we're still talking over Discord, sad to say.

Signal keeps suggesting I add a contact for my old boss. (Who was a cool guy, but not cool enough to keep in contact with years afterwards.) Actually, when I had an internship a few years afterwards, the new boss's preferred app was Telegram, so, uh, a red flag? ...Yeah, didn't get that job.

  • MacGyver? My childhood hero? Oh what do I think about the series oh boy [5 hours of gushing omitted for brevity]

I have the DVD box right on the shelf in case I have a MacGyver emergency and need to watch MacGyver

  • Funny thing, the anti-DEI people are usually crying that this should be a meritocracy. Don't fill diversity quotas, honour the worthy people, they say.

Let's see here. Should they name the aircraft carrier after a war hero, or the bone spurs guy? Hmm, this is a toughie.

  • Whenever I order stuff at McDonald's, it's been over a femtosecond since my last visit, so the app has logged itself out. So I always need to sit down and re-login. With mandatory 2 factor authentication. No TOTP, of course, it sends the code to email.

    Welcome to McDonald's. Papers please.

  • I buy maybe one or two "full price" video games per year. And even then those are probably not exactly "AAA". Buying tons of indie stuff though!

Got rid of most of the streaming services and I'm seriously considering dropping the few that remain. (I'd need to, ugh, call the support to cancel.) The free streaming service from the national public broadcaster is pretty amazing and I have a wall of DVDs and Blu-Ray discs.

  • Name 3 UML diagrams

Class diagram, use case diagram and... What was the useless, barely readable evolution of flowcharts called again? Activity diagram?

    and 3 architectures!

MOS 6502, amd64, and... I've never figured out the ARM naming scheme. AAAAAAarch64 or something?

  • Somebody needs to finally compose a Linux install music that's even more memorable and awesome than the Windows XP install music

  • Not long ago, I needed to quickly add a 4-line thing to my Ruby on Rails app on my Raspberry Pi. I was like, shit, I really can't be arsed to mount the RPi over Samba to edit this stuff on VSCode on my Windows laptop to add like 4 lines. I don't have vim, I can't be arsed to check which vimlike I have at hand, I can't be arsed to see if my Emacs setup has been customised for this RPi. So fuck it, Nano it is!

  • Oh lord my code is actively helping making AI worse.

I checked out, it has some of my repositories. They crawled this stuff in 2025 and they probably won't update it. Whoever uses this dataset will have to deal with some super garbage, I tell ya.

  • Welp

    Jump
  • I'm unemployed, I'm incredibly snarky at the recruitment posts. (This literally hasn't changed in decades.) Right now I'm like "oh, they want Python programmers...? Good, I'm one. For web scraping tasks...? Okay that's bullshit. Wait, this is an AI job post? The MBAs, drunk with their Vibe Coding power, thought they could feed the Machine, but lo, they were mistaken!!! For web scraping was a Dark Art."

  • GNOME folks are like "well, before GNOME was even a thing, we had this application called The Gimp, and we kinda wish we didn't call it that, so please don't name your apps for laughs OK?"

  • The application most likely to cause confusion among True Gamers™ who got fed up with Windows.

(PRO TIP: dolphin is the KDE file manager, dolphin-emu is what you really want. PRO TIP 2: To defeat the PulseAudio daemon, shoot at it until it dies)

  • Perchance you should start measuring things in hamburger units, or express your distaste of paywalled articles, or how you want to remove all of the mild everyday annoyances from the reality because, you know, they mildly bug you. Or just talk about the proletariat.

...I dunno, I'm not on the list either because I don't talk about this stuff much, I guess.

  • Our local Pride Week is in August. It's weird, but it may have something to do with corporate shenanigans if you catch my drift.

Anyway it's fun watching some of local chuds foaming at their mouth in June and then we go "dude, we don't do Pride in June for a reason".

  • Most of my microblogging stuff has been just shouting in the void about stuff I've been doing. And random brainfarts. I follow cool people on social media so I can see them shout in the void about what they're doing. And their random brainfarts.

I'm happy Mastodon still lets me do just that. Perfect platform for that sort of stuff.

The Algo Lords decided people don't actually want to see that, they want "popular" things and engagement bait. Yeah no, not what I want.

  • I don't care how "open source" the printer claims to be. Both hardware and software belong to Belzebub. Such was the dark pact printer makers signed in blood decades ago, and all land shall obey by those words. We shall hit the print button and wallow in torment forever.

  • Been in a bunch of situations where the best available software is 0.x and hella buggy. (Which I discovered after building the software and its dozen dependencies from source because of course no one had packaged it.) But I'm not mad, I'm just "oh well, the situation will improve in the future, I hope".

  • Programmer Humor @programming.dev

Probably the most sweat-inducing user input verification code in history.

  • Enshittification @slrpnk.net

    Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 4

  • aww @lemmy.world

Famed Catholic saint Francis of Assisi, leading a fluffo woofy into Gubbio, so that the people can just see that this fluffo is very woofy & this woofy is fluffo. Damn, Middle Ages was cool.

  • Programmer Humor @programming.dev

This will be really funny, until you remember 99% of current super hyped AI stuff is running on Python
