  • This bugs me. I selected between pfSense and OpnSense a few years ago and got the impression pfSense's support and UI was better. I'm not looking forward to having reconfigure everything if switching :/

  • My elderly parents got the "your computer cannot be upgraded" and my somewhat tech-litterate mom asked me to move them to Linux.

    Microsoft should've realised at some point that the only thing most people need today is a computer that can run a web browser and connect to a printer.

  • Have a node up in the attic which is bridged to my wifi and into my Matrix server. Of course, in the event of a catastrophe the usage will be direct bluetooth connection from a phone instead.

    The range is impressive, my node connects to others several tens of kilometers away.

  • No the EU law does not require manufacturers to disallow unlocking the bootloader. Actually, it specifically says the law should NOT be used as an excuse to do that.

    The law requires high security when it comes to the radio (baseband) part of the phone - and that has always been a separate enclave anyway compared to the OS.

  • I just rewatched the whole series a few weeks ago. It mostly holds up still today.

  • I have two higher educations since tuition is free here. I'm in good health, since healthcare is also free. I took out 18 months of paternity leave with our firstborn since we're an equal society and my girlfriend (now wife) at the time was at uni.

    I have no issues queueing, waiting for my turn. I consider all others to have as much rights as I do to anything, no one is ever "above".

  • That's one definition of blockchain. Since the solution to the Byzantine Generals' problem in Bitcoin is done by Proof of Work it can't be said to be a part of the blockchain definition since there are many (most?) blockchains that don't use PoW. Some companies peddling "blockchain solutions" even use central authorities.

    So, with "blockchain" just being a chain of cryptographically verified blocks then git indeed fulfills that definition.

  • "Blockchain" as commonly meant as used in cryptocurrencies - no. Only for Bitcoin - all other *coins are scams.

    However git can be considered to be based on blockchain so in that sense, absolutely.
