  • That's great if you have a Roku or Shield. I don't. I've owned both in the past and don't want either because they're both an absolute mess of advertising. I currently have an Apple TV and an Android tablet. Jellyfin is okay on Android (and I emphasize okay and not amazing or great), but the Apple TV is may main viewing device and Swiftfin is the best option and still miles behind Plex.

Particularly because on Apple TV with Plex you can override built in subs with the closed caption styles, meaning literally all subs that aren't explicitly burned into the image can be made consistent and easy to read. Haven't seen that feature anywhere else, including on the Shield TV/Pro (I used to own one, got rid of it when Android TV updated to the ad-riddled version it is today). It's a really amazing feature IMO to be able to have full control of subtitle font, size, style, color, outline, and spacing, no matter what you're watching.

  • I have a Jellyfin server as backup, but its clients are shit for anything that uses subtitles. I bought plex pass years back for $80 on sale, can't complain, but I'm never going to wholly rely on something closed source that requires online credentials.

  • Can't forget metabolic disorders too. I'm a T2 diabetic. Well controlled, to the point I've had a few doctors literally not believe I was diabetic (at the time my A1c was like 5.1, a decade later it's generally between 5.5 and 6). I'm pretty strict with my diet. I occasionally will fall into snacking, but when that happens, I literally just stop buying snacks altogether to prevent it.

I eat the same meals often, and roughly track my calories. I do intense workouts weekly, and roughly tracking via my fitness watch indicates that I'm burning around 800kcals per HIIT cardio workout 2-3x per week most weeks, plus my other sessions with weight training. I'm taking in probably 1800 calories give or take most days, and burning off over an entire extra day and a half worth of calories weekly. But I'm still struggling to lose weight. Even at what should be a high caloric deficit where I'm feeling regularly straight up ravenous, it took me a year to lose around 15 lbs, and my weight still flip flops up and down weekly, even though the overall trend is downward.

I'm a big believer in fitness, in the idea of calories in -> calories out, and managing my TDEE. But it's just downright harder for some folks, and I'm apparently one of them.

  • Rag owned by billionaire jerks off billionaires.

In other news, the sky was blue today, and surprisingly, water is still wet.

  • Hot take: This is to stop the slop tsunami.

When any idiot can vibe code some slop app, things are going to get out of hand very fast.

But the play store is already completely filled with slop garbage, AI notwithstanding.

  • Since I see you have some anime there:

    • Gargantia on the Verduous Planet
    • Samurai Flamenco
    • Tiger & Bunny
    • Cells at Work

Should all be wholesome and pretty kid friendly.

Also, some older cartoons you missed:

    • Pirates of Dark Water
    • Conan the Adventurer
    • 2 Stupid Dogs
    • Doug (Nickelodeon series)
  • Bring on the bad ones, we’ll kick them all out not vote for them.

Come on, let's at least try to be a bit proactive next time, eh? Nobody wants to go through this bullshit again.

  • I get free Epic games from Prime Gaming, but I refuse to redeem them on principle. You couldn't pay me to use Epic, or even give them an inkling that I support them.

I considered it briefly when they launched, and then they pulled the bullshit of game exclusivity on PC, which is why I left consoles behind. Because of that, I'll never purchase from them.

  • Not really, six feet will do.

  • I game often, and 100% on Linux. Unless you're doing competitive multiplayer games with kernel level anti-cheat (read: rootkit malware), games run perfectly fine.

  • Kinda surprised nobody has mentioned Metal Gear Solid V and Peace Walker.

  • The iPhone’s auto-correct is the worst by far. And I don’t get it because it was actually good around iOS 16 or so. Since 17 it’s been utterly terrible and constantly corrects words that are already what I wanted, making them wrong.

  • Being wealthy just means you don't need to overly worry about money. I'm wealthy, but I hate the system and how the world is doing.

This. I make low six figures and support myself and my spouse on a single income. We’ve had to be careful in choosing where to live, how much house to buy and all that. I’m not baller, but I’m comfortable. Amenities are fine and I pay my bills without much thought. I’m working toward retirement.

That’s a reasonable amount of wealth for most. The problem is there are people with so much wealth it provides them the means to manipulate society in sweeping gestures.

    • Don’t like the news? buy the media outlet.
    • Want unfairly low taxes? Bribe a politician or 50 of them. (Oh, sorry, “lobby” them)
    • Politician is against you? Fully fund their opponent’s campaign and now they owe you.
    • Another company competing with you? Buy them.
    • etc.

Also, while insider trading is illegal, someone with this much wealth, influence, and power can’t help but have inside information just for existing in the circles they do, and wealth leads to greater wealth simply because there’s no way to regulate it reasonably.

  • Needs more JPEG compression, I can still kind of read it.

  • Yeah. I don’t even want to get into how the writer’s strike killed Heroes and Journeyman way back in 2006-ish.

  • Dark Matter

Amazing show, I was pissed when it got cancelled on the cliffhanger.

  • Stargate SG-1.

  • Just sell Splinter Cell to a company that knows what the hell to do with it already.

  • I know you think the snark is cute or funny, but resistance is happening. Courts are ruling on things, people are protesting massively, and Minneapolis is actively resisting. Peacefully. Read your history. Peaceful protest does work.
