  • This is good news, and maybe there can be more quality anime and manga in the future.

    Still very disturbing that this wasn’t their policy already though…

    I’ve been an anime fan since the 1980s, but have fallen off hard since 2012 or so. There are so few good series these days and a lot of it just seems like embarrassing juvenile pervy crap nowadays. There’s not much to like about it

  • It’s pretty cool. I have it integrated with Lyrion via a plugin so I can generate a list of related tracks to a song, album, or artist in my play queue, and with lyrics and CLAP analysis it can also generate a music queue via text prompts via phrases like “classical music with cellos” or “relaxing ambient without bass” “aggressive melodic rock” “soothing female vocals” and so on.

    As a bonus, we use Wiim Pros and Pro+ units at home to integrate with Lyrion and they can be linked and synced for whole house playback across multiple audio setups.

  • This is pretty cool, and I’m guessing the hardware doesn’t even break a sweat.

    My entire setup runs on two AMD mini-PCs, one running a Ryzen 5700u with Proxmox for VM hosting, the other is a 5500u running bare metal Ubuntu.

    Proxmox server hosts:

    • Asset UPnP
    • Jellyfin
    • Audiobookshelf
    • (formerly) Plex (I ditched it)
    • Lyrion
    • LRCLIB offline lyrics server (via LRCLIB DB dump)
    • Home Assistant VM
    • Navidrome instance

    Probably a few other things I forgot about…

    The bare metal Ubuntu server currently just runs Audiomuse-AI for music analysis, but when not scanning it’s generally idle. Only set this up because early versions of Audiomuse-AI didn’t play nice for me in a VM even when r running with CPU in host mode.

    When the hardware gets cheaper I wouldn’t mind a full size server again with a dedicated GPU (I decommissioned my old one due to defective RAM), but for now the mini-PCs have been great. They’re quiet and absolutely sip power, so efficient and quiet.

  • Thankfully I’m not paying it. Even before the AI boom I saw the overall upward trend in power costs. I went solar with battery backup when I had my house built and I bought enough to be at or above 100% offset with net metering. The only thing I pay is the grid-tie connection fee each month, and I get a small check from the power company each year for any overage I generate.

  • I won't be singing anything. I'll just be fucking relieved. But even when he dies this mess won't be over. There's a lot to dismantle, and we'll still have to deal with VP couch fucker, Thiel, the cabinet, ICE, and much more. Trump's death will be a beginning, not an end.

  • I think I’m probably okay. I just got home a few hours ago and while things are still smelling a bit smoky outside, doesn’t seem like much if any smoke entered my home. I don’t smell anything inside.

    Benefits of a new build I guess, place was built in 2021 to be a “tight” home with close cell foam insulation for central air and insulation.

    Planning to get an air purifier just in case, and I already run MERV 13 filters in the house.

  • There are too many acronyms in your response (NAS? UPS?), haha but I get the gist of it.

    My bad, I work in IT and take the acronyms for granted.

    UPS is uninterruptible power supply, NAS is network attached storage.

    I work from home so I have everything with backups for power and internet.

    My solar setup has a 1 second switch-over when grid power fails so my critical stuff has small UPS batteries. The network storage box also has one of the UPSes plugged into a USB port to communicate a power failure, so if only the UPS is on and no other power is detected after 15 or 20 minutes, it’s set to safely shutdown (battery lasts about 45 mins).

    So that means if the NAS is still on when I get home, my solar battery never fully drained and kept powering the house.

  • Thanks, this gives me a pretty good checklist to work with. Also, didn’t consider pantry goods. Will canned items still be safe? (Edit - you covered this. I’ll have to talk to a specialist about this and the bedding. The house was as sealed as it could be and no fans or A/C on so 🤞).

    Freezer goods might still be okay. I have solar with battery backup. Should still be running despite the smoke since I didn’t get to shut it off before evac, and my central air is off. It’s literally only running the fridge and some mini-PCs right now. My NAS is configured via USB UPS to properly shut down if power is cut, and doesn’t auto-restart on power available. So if it’s still running when this is over that’ll confirm power never went out to the fridge and freezer.

    Pro tip for you, ASR (whisper - lyric detection/transcription) can be kind of bad, but if you have some spare resources, it takes very little to host a local LRCLIB database and clone lrclib.net (they have a GitHub page). This massively speed up lyric analysis for me using the API against a local site instead of getting 429s against lrclib.net or relying on ASR.

    Lyrics are the biggest longest part of the scans. My whole collection was like 3+ weeks with lyrics stuff on, but only 2 days with just MusiCNN and CLAP.

  • I run into it often, but I live in a rural place where eggs are commonly sold in huge quantities (like bulk 5 and 1/2 dozen cartons). Usually I'll find another carton that's got cracked eggs as well, and swap for some good ones.

  • I love SG-1, but unless you're a super fan (I am, but I feel the disclaimer is warranted) I'd say stop at the end of season 7. That's it, main plot is wrapped up, it's done, great finale.

    I say this, because while the rest of the series is good, season 8 is in a weird place as they set up an entirely new arc that's wholly unrelated to the original series, including some new characters on the team. There's interesting episodes and it's still great, but might be a bit hard to swallow for some because it's so different.

    That said, if you enjoy the first 7 seasons, at the least, also watch the Continuum film, it's great and Cliff Simon always chews up any scene he's in (in a good way), he definitely took charisma as his main stat.

  • I hope to be on that path. I’m in my 40s and tired of the grind. Nowhere close to retirement yet, but I am likely on track to pay off my house early in the next two years (maybe 7 years into a 30 year mortgage) which will go a long way.

    I’m saving as much as I can and hoping I can retire lean in my mid or late 50s.

    Right now though all I can think of is that I need a sabbatical after my current job ends (either layoffs or just quitting) because I really need a break.

    Reintroduce LAN play and locally hosted multiplayer servers. IDGAF about playing with randos, I just want to play with my wife, and I’d prefer it to not be something that can shut down because the company went broke or didn’t care anymore.

  • Seriously, I barely play any new games, and pretty much no AAA that have come out the last few years. This year I've finished:

    • Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Conviction, and Blacklist
    • Super Mario World

    • 999 (9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors)
    • Across the Obelisk (multiple times, wife and I play this co-op)
    • Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

    • Ball x Pit
    • Rainbow Six Vegas 2
    • ChainStaff
    • 9 Years of Shadows
    • Ace Combat X
    • Live A Live remake

    And currently I'm playing Megacopter: Blades of the Goddess solo, and Divinity: Original Sin 2 with my wife.

    I'm having a blast tearing through the backlog this year, and I've barely bought any games compared to previous years. My Steam Deck alone has like 150+ games on it I'm looking to play through, and that doesn't even account for all the retro games I'm looking to play via emulation.
