  • I’ve tried both and had favored Ente for months but I eventually drifted towards Immich. The most obvious reason is that Ente isn’t optimal for self hosting. And it’s rather proof of concept to show they are committed to openness. On the other hand, Immich is built for self hosters.

Ente has client side encryption. That why I initially committed in order to respect privacy of my users. So if you care about the users. Go for it.

  • I see thanks. I’ll think about it more.

  • Don’t reverse proxies like pangolin just do the job? Does it have to be VPN in this particular concept? VPN isn’t like immune to vulnerabilities.

  • This was really helpful! Ty

  • Didn’t know this was a thing. Thanks!

  • hey thanks. I flashed openwrt since day-1. so I cannot comment on that. (And I personally bought this router specifically because people mention good thing about openwrt supports it)

I will be doing as you say just to check out but after every bit of resolution i could think of.

  • Privacy @lemmy.ml

Is there a reason S/MIME and OpenPGP do not coexist?

  • Same lol. Can’t be that catastrophic. Right? …. Right?

  • Agreed. Do I expect my mom to manually plug in the usb flash? She ain’t have slightest idea of what a file is. Same goes for Nextcloud everything and Syncthing. Setup and done is Immich. The lead dev of Immich explicitly mention his motivation was to make it easy to backup and share pics with his wife and child.

  • Thank you! Great info. After some reading, I went with Rescuezilla which is yet another GUI for Clonezilla. I might give the foxclone next time!

  • Thanks guys. I went with Rescuezilla in the end. So far so good.

  • Thank you for the insight. Changes are incremental I suppose. You are correct that it’s more efficient. But I kind of want to back up the whole disk since I can keep a bootable drive with it right?

  • First time hearing of this. Any particular reasons?

  • I’m on a similar boat except I might have less time resource available in the future cause I’m getting a job.

Hopefully I could automate full disk backup because if something like Immich breaks, I can just load up from the backup drive. My family also use the services so… I think it’s great you brought up RAID but I believe when Immich or any software mess things up it’s not recoverable right?

  • This is something I should consider!

  • I see. This is more of a file system backup right? Do you recommend it over full disk backup for any reason? I can think of saving space.

  • Based. Yes. It is an option.

  • Selfhosted @lemmy.world

Which other disk backup solution do you recommend other than Clonezilla?

  • I remember hosting server option was somehow paid.

That’s somewhat my reason for I decided to go with Joplin
