  • I wish the video actually had him using it to hit a drone or something. As is, it only shows one actual launch, and it didn't look all that impressive. His motors didn't seem to have enough umph to let the missile stabilize properly.

  • I grew up on 150 acres in a very rural part of the Southern US.

    This could also be an age thing though. There is now a county animal control and some animal shelters. That wasn't true in the early 90s.

    But the area has grown a bunch since then too. What used to be farmland for ages has started to turn into suburbs and subdivisions. I'm sure what I've described is still pretty normative in places that are still underdeveloped.

    Two things can be true. Noam can be a bad person, and people in rural areas can, unfortunately, sometimes have to put down feral dogs.

  • I get that you're mocking her, but genuinely sometimes, when you're particularly rural, you do in fact have to shoot a dog.

    Where I grew up, there was no animal control. There was no one to call if there were loose animals. Combine that with the fact that it was an area where people would just dump unwanted animals, and we had a real feral dog problem.

    When you have dangerous dogs show up a couple of times a month, and your only other option to get rid of them is to try and catch them, load them up in a crate, drive them an hour into town, just to give them to a pound that's gonna put them down anyway; yeah, sometimes you kinda don't have much other option but to shoot them.

    My dad put down a good few dogs when I was young. It wasn't something he liked doing. But when you have young kids running around, you can't just let a bunch of feral dogs run loose.

    What should he have done? What was the "correct" decision for him to make?

    Edit: Not defending Noam here. Her story about shooting her dog has a lot more wrong with it than simply shooting the dog. She's a monster.

  • Literally every watchdog group that rates senators has her as more liberal than conservative. She sided with the Obama presidency on over 70% of votes. She consistently gets endorsements from Democrats during reelection campaigns. She voted against Trump in both elections. If you think she's MAGA, you're living in fantasy land.

    I'm not saying she's Karl Marx. But she's 1000% not MAGA, and if you think she is, you've basically obviated any meaning the term has. MAGA doesn't mean "anyone to the right of Lenin." Just because someone votes conservative on some issues doesn't make them MAGA.

  • Not to put too fine a point on it, but the phrase "made with no artificial colors" being printed on something has never influenced my purchasing decision.

    But maybe I'm an outlier in that regard.

    But this seems like a bit of a nothing-burger to me. From what I can tell, it's not that Titanium Dioxide was banned and now he's allowing it. It's that it's always been allowed, but now he's letting products that contain it to put "no artificial coloring" on the package.

    Naturally derived dyes obviously aren't definitionally healthier than artificial ones, and some natural ones can in fact be bad for you. But the label doesn't say "no bad for you dyes," it says "no artificial dyes." It's something of a useless lable in the first place, no?

  • That's the prevailing opinion certainly, but there's a pretty diehard contingent who love it. That it just gets a bad rep because it gets compared to the masterpiece that was Twilight Princess.

    Can't say myself, as I've never played it, but I've got a few friends who are huge proponents of it and would say it's underrated.

    And, to be fair, something doesn't have to be good to be underrated. People hate Skyward Sword, and I assume it's not actually terrible. Just on the low end of Zelda games.

  • Tour de Pharmacy

    It's a mockumentary about the Tour de France, but everyone's been kicked out for doping.

    There are only 5 competitors left, Andy Sandberg, John Cena, Daveed Diggs, Orlando Bloom, and Freddie Highmore.

    They've got the actual Lance Armstrong doing a "hidden informant" bit.

    Each of the racers has a wacky backstory. Hijinks ensue. It's a great time.

    Not the best movie ever, but I had an absolute blast with it.

  • This may be shocking to you, but there are actually Republicans who aren't members of Congress.

    Just because MAGA has captured a majority of the party and therefore wins most of the primaries doesn't mean there are no non-MAGA republicans.

    Also, there's Susan Collins in the Senate, so that's at least two.

  • I mean, in addition to what everyone else said, disabilities can in fact disqualify you from being a good president.

    If someone is non-verbally autistic with an ID diagnosis, it's not ableist to say they aren't a good candidate to be president.

    Obviously this is a spectrum, and ADHD shouldn't be, on its face, disqualifying. But if it's so bad you're literally illiterate, then it's no ableist to say that makes you a bad candidate to be president.

  • It is in fact possible to be both Republican and vehemently against the current regime. There are plenty of die-hard Republicans who have vocally hated Trump for the past decade.

    That doesn't mean he has good politics, but you can have bad politics and still hate the out-and-out Nazis.

  • There's a lot of unjustified doomerism here. The article even says that Alito has basically already called the California gerrymander acceptable.

    I'd give 3:1 odds that they don't overturn it.

    Honestly, I'd be surprised if the results were any worse than 1-8, and that only because Clarence Thomas is a literal psychopath. Maybe 2-7. Alito is two-faced as all hell.

    If they fired everyone involved with every controversy and started donating every cent of profit to LGBT charity groups, would you say they were a good company, or is it once tainted always tainted.

    Chic-fil-a has made a lot of changes in the past decade and a half, and I'm of the opinion that, if no amount of self reflection and change can ever make us reconsider our condemnation, then there's no reason for anything to try and change, as it won't stop the hate.

    Not that Chic-fil-a is perfect, but I would argue they are now as good or better than any other fast food chain we're not actively hating on. They actually pay their employees more than minimum wage and give them one guaranteed weekend day off if nothing else.

    So why continue to put them down now that it's "mission accomplished?" If the goal was for them to change, and they have, it seems that we should bring them back into the fold, no?

  • Before I even looked I said, "I bet it's Russell Moore." He's been vocally anti-Trump since before his first term. Even got fired from the SBC ERLC for it.

    So he's been there the whole time, basically. This isn't a reversal for him.

    Edit: I hadn't actually read the article yet. That quote is David Brody. I just assumed the whole article would be about Russell Moore.
