  • the nas just has a button like ibterface. its like installing a game from steam

  • The true plug-and-play user friendly way is to buy a NAS device and install all apps there.

i think this space will actually get bigger because of everything going on. these nas devices will ve the way to go for your average user.

------- what i did, if you are curious ------

i have everything running on proxmox. mostly as lxcs. there are proxmox helper scripts so it installs nice. i use proxmox for a lot of services so ut all wotks. also, for hardware rendering , intel cpus work better because of intel qsv.

i bought a ugreen nas device. bought an nvme. installed truenas on the nvme, because i like it and its open source. tge ugreen device has a built in boot drive with ugreen os which you can not download so i did not want to overwrite it.

now i have 27 years professionally as a software dev, so i had a foundation to learn this stuff. i want to give a heads up if you use an llm for learning. always ask it to explain and question things. look up any new terms. because of my experience, i understood most of the answers it gave and questioned when i didnt. i remember one time it said to do one thing (i dont remember) and i asked for more info. when i understood i knew it was missing something. i said "but i have x, y, and z" which in alm fairness i never mentioned and it did change the answer. my long-windwd point? dont run anything, unless you fully understand why. this advice goes for anyone not just using ai. people will be wrong too. know what you are doing

  • ok. here is the US we got a fucked up president. honestly i looked into what ot would take to move in case things got really really bad. but both canada and uk (maybe france) passed Meta's kid ID law. now the EU is passing this. our government may be disfinction due to insane infighting but this stuff doesnt get passed. now some states have but that can be overriden. and its a lot easier to relocate states.

i do want people to know that i am complaining because i wanted europe to be the goos guys. i was on a big europe software and services mission but this stuff is crazy.

  • um.. what?

  • i would like to see more cutting edge attempts. this is more of a linux ecosystem thing but try new things even if they dont work out. until very recently, parental controls have been non existing or barely functioning.

for the linux ecosystem to be mainstream it needs to cover more people.

  • EDIT: i took the time to look and its not realky a gui for ffmpeg. it uses the same libraries but doesnt have the exact functionality as the ffmpeg program.

i feel very silly. i always thought handbrake was an alternative. i never took the time to find out more but never knew it was a frontend for ffmpeg.

  • the fact that you list .net shows you dont have the knowledge to make this claim

  • no its not.

  • i think its time to sell off xbox

  • i use netbird. i gorgot why i did not choose tailscale but netbird ine my research

  • "I'm anti-capitalism" well the white house may grant your wish. they want to own the ai companies. you may get to live in your world where the government owns it all.

    i rather have private ownership.

  • why? bevause they gave people an option that dorsnt affect anyone else?

  • i have an issue with government surveillance. my kids have never been on social media. wedidnt need to government to step in. hell, android's parental controls are really good

  • are you worried microsoft ia coming to your house? your address isnt privelaged ibfo. they already have it.

  • i started my professional software development career in 1999. the amount of older guys who called the web stupid and a fad or "gopher is the future of the internet" was crazy. people hate change

  • unlike the US, chinese citizens arent anti ai either. peter theil is unginged.

  • user account management.

it actually takes over my thoughts a lot. user accounts shoild be their own service.

its a really really hard problem. to have something thats not centralized but protected against manipulation. i want to solve to so bad.

but i want one user and have it propogated to all services

  • but to get everything ms 365 offers, you want to check out nextcloud.

  • foliate and calibre do different things. you would use them at the same time
