  • I bet Prusa is pretty happy about this decision from Bambu.

    Maybe they are happy, but does this help them ? Maybe a little bit in the short term, but Prusa offers are on a different price range. Higher prices where justified in the past by delivering a better quality, better out off the box experience and innovative features compared to competitors until Bambu reshaped the market.

    The team at Prusa shouldn't feel happy, they should feel comforted in their strategy of supporting open-source and community efforts. But, above all, they should see an opening to gain back the front stage if they are able to provide a printer at the right price and the right features

    Now, given they just launched the CORE One, priced at 1350€ assembled, I doubt they have anything ready to reveal right now to amaze us.

  • Take the time to properly understand Linux file ownership and permission. Permission will be the cause of many issues you will encounter in you self-hosting journey on Linux. Make sure you know the basics of chmod (change permission) and chown (change ownership), Linux users and groups. This will save you some head-scratching, but don't worry, you will learn by doing !

    Remember that, if you setup everything right, especially with docker, running as root / with sudo is not required for any of the services you may want to run.

  • My workweeks are 25 to 50% meetings, the vast majority online. I try to be exactly on time as much as possible, can't afford to be in advance, will notify if I will be more than 3 minutes late. I send a message to participants if they are not all here after a couple of minutes, not to put pressure, but I know it's easy to be concentrating on something and miss the meeting, it happens to me as well.

  • I suppose you are taking about a laptop ? Some laptops are known to have strange fan behaviors with Linux. I suppose the manufacturers are using a windows driver to control the fans, as opposed to controlling the fans with the Embedded Controller, which would work the same regardless of the OS.

    I has living in flat share with 2 friends while studying master. We all had a 4 month internship in different companies during the summer break (mandatory). The week back to university after the internships we also also provided temporary shelter to a younger student while she was looking for a new flat. For context, this young lady was raised in a very strict Christian family. As we were all friends in this flat, we use to cook and eat most meals together. One evening the topic came up, about how boring the internships were. One friend confessed he was so bored he went to the toilet to masturbate on the job, using his phone for porn. I was like "no way you did !" and the second friend said, "yeah me too, I also had a wank on the job". Out of 3 guys, 2 had a wank on the job in the course of 4 month. Our lady friend was more like "You guys MASTURBATE!?!".

    I find it funny to name my cat after very common human names, although these names are not so common were I live, that would avoid some friends or family members to feel offended I name my pet after them.

  • I don't think the up/down arrows on the scroll-bars event exists anymore. They aren't there in default windows 11 that's for sure.

    Edit: they do appear when you hoover your mouse over the scroll-bar or click on it.
