  • Not sure why there are so many people in this thread and on other Fediverse circles saying banning cryptocurrency-related projects is a good thing. The wording in this TOS is absolutely terrible and is vague enough that it will probably be abused. By the way, people especially in FOSS use cryptocurrency as an actual currency rather than just gambling and scamming. To all the people defending this: do you think being forced to use fiat currency, especially in opressive and increasingly oppresive governments, is a morally superior alternative to cryptocurrency? Come on guys.

"It can be used by criminals" so can darknets like Tor and I2P. So can all free and open source software. I genuinely believe that the people pushing these arguments either have no idea what cryptocurrencies are OR are completely brainwashed

People should have stopped using Codeberg simply because it's a large centralised platform, how anyone is even still moving to it is completely beyond me

  • Birth rate isn't the only thing, life expectancy and the age of the average population is too. This is a factor that everyone in this thread seems to be ignoring because it proves why there is an appropiate reaction to the bottom 3 countries.

  • What is happening in the bottom left panel?

  • Literally creating bugs for the sake of creating bugs for no benefits in performance or security. This is completely embarassing.

  • This insanely nonsensical behavior is prevalent in tons of communities, and it should be shunned and avoided. These moderators are not worth a fraction of your time.

  • Whether or not Linus saying this makes him an asshole is completely irrelevant, he was critiquing his code, not the developer himself. His statement about making the world a worse place to live is not even hyperbolic considering how much technology plays a role in our lives. I don't understand this insane obsession with civility especially when the stakes are so high. As jerakor said, we cannot substitute code quality for being nice.

  • What Linus says to people is nothing, considering the importance of the Linux kernel in every-ray life. People need to get thicker skin

  • No, I'm saying that most of West Africa is in quadrant A.

  • A is West Africa.

As governments around the world are set to make the Internet more restrictive and privacy-invading, we need a solution

  • Maybe I shouldn't have used the term vibe coded. I apologize.

  • This is what happens when you decide to vibecode a service with zero attention to safety or web development. This is why you don't immediately jump onto a new service without it being vetted properly. Now one of the worst communities on the Internet is in possession of over a hundred thousand women's driving licenses and faces. This is going to be an absolute disaster.

  • After conduwuit died, I just completely stopped using Matrix. I have zero faith in the current developers of these forks to not do the same bullshit that June did.

  • Prosody is probably your best bet. It's modular, easily configurable and is basically fully compliant with the XMPP specification. For your bridges however, I'd reccomend not going fully into XMPP because there are very little bridges available for it. As for dockerization, apparently they are not currently updating their dockerfiles, so this is another thing to take into account.
