  • It's been a while since I used it in earnest, so my memory is hazy enough that I can't be specific. One of the largest pieces of work I've done in C++ was not writing C++, but working out how to ask bazel to build a single shared library that imports other bazel libraries. I've never used such a confusing and frustrating package manager. It was frequently unclear how to do things, despite the project having quite a lot of documentation.

When I read it supports multiple languages, I had two thoughts:

    • Why? That feels like trying to write a single style sheet for both English and Mandarin.
    • That might explain why it's so confusing. I surmised: I has to bend over backwards to support all these different languages and their different module and packages architectures. And it doesn't manage to hide that complexity from the user.
  • If you've ever tried using bazel, you might understand why writing a single package manager for multiple languages is a bad idea (at least, that's why I assume bazel is so god-awful)

  • aside from the obvious use of LLMs for the actuall project, everything was written by hand ... everything you see is my fault.

  • Jetbrains do use AI when writing their IDEs. But I also heard something about the Ukraine war affecting operations, cos they had people working in the countries involved. This was hearsay though.

  • Would you mind pointing to a specific example? I know he praised a Trump appointee a while back, regarding approach to big tech. Was there another?

  • Which Proton incident(s) do you consider "nazi"?

  • I've not seen a single article about Proton that's made me abandon them. Diversified away from, yes, but not abandon.

The privacy community will be under fire from very powerful interests, so I also take all criticism with a mountain of salt.

  • What does this mean when the kernel allows AI contributions?

  • assert(true);

  • Oil is a group of hydrocarbons

  • I realise I misread your original comment, apologies

  • Drive-by cynicism, huh? They give pretty extensive reasons for their choice. You're free to read them.

  • Would you mind linking me to the instructions you used? It still doesn't work for me

  • The GUI/CLI apps don't yet work, but the firefox extension does. Also, you can probably work around it by using the wireguard config detailed on the proton website, which is reasonably straightforward.

and yes it's dependencies. some python metadata package

  • I'm pretty new to Debian testing, but so far it's felt similar to Ubuntu. Probably cos it's still Gnome. I've come across one app that's not supported (proton vpn). I've also had a couple of system crashes, but my computer was acting weird before Debian, so it might be the hardware.

  • Without reading the article, I assume this is because creating a successful app takes commitment, and vibe coding lets you code without commitment.

  • Pharmaceutical use was primarily what I meant by "a tool"
