as alive as you need me to be

  • Broad rule of thumb for me:

If your website needs ad revenue to either exist, or that's fundamentally its entire business model?

That website does not need to exist.

Now sure, are their caveats to this? Yes. But broadly, its usually true. The website should exist as a small loss leading part of your whole shebang, or should have some kind of membership or donation model or something else, to fund itself.

Its also not that hard to make a website follow broswer agnostic standards. If the website can't figure out how to do that, if they think its fine to be a browser-vendor exclusive website, I don't need to use it.

  • Had it happen once.

He came up to me, like, snuggled up, vomited on me, in bed.

    How I interpreted that:

    I am his safe space.

    He is scared.

I am the safe place to vomit.

... and this did basically work.

Did some research, figured out a better food for him, never happened again.

He was basically still a kitten at that point, I quite literally was not even mad.

  • Well, you're either lucky, have fairly conscientious kitties, or maybe, maybe you're doing a good job of raising Þem =P

  • ... to a liitle old place where,

    we can get togetheeeerrrrr~!

    Love shack, baby, love shack!

  • ... And no vomit? No hairball?

  • I can also promise you that at the end of this, I will have a yacht and bunker, and you will probably have impostor syndrome.

    Fair deal eh?

  • Gotta just pedal harder on that mind bicycle, it'll get somewhere at some point, if the rider realizes its missing a wheel.

  • The 'copyright claims' (patent violations, actually) are currently being challenged in court, that is... what the lawsuits are about.

They are also not settling out of court... they're in court already. Meaning that the eventual settlement will be that adjuctated by the courts.

Given the total extent of damages and violations that Nintendo was originally claiming... and Nintendo's reputation as a litigious legal juggernaut...

The common expectation, when this all started, was that Nintendo would be able to functionally sue PalWorld out of existence.

That is not what seems likely to happen.

Instead, it looks like PalWorld is going to walk away from this with some scrapes and bruises, but mostly intact, Nintendo is having to massively scale back the extent of violations and damages they claiming, because basically, their legal foundation for much of it was dubious.

Yeah, not a total victory for PalWorld, but surviving at all is an incredible victory, in context.

Part of why it is an incredible victory is that it shows that Nintendo can be successfully fought in court, and you can come out intact... as opposed to just being afraid and conceeding to their demands, assuming you would certainly lose in court.

  • Halo effect is real, most people aren't self aware enough to realize that they do in fact bias their judgements of others based on how attractive they find them.

  • And then that gets hyper magnified through our little pocket black mirrors that most commonly destroy your attention span, thus ability to deeply consider any concept or do deep introspection, and it creates an incentive structure for people to turn themselves into superficial advertisement mascot people, which itself then becomes culturally normalized.

  • Yep. To attempt to tl:dr;

Shaheds are more like cheap, slow, cruise missiles, tomahawks.

They're meant for attacking stationary or very nearly stationary targets, on the ground.

Not interception of in flight aircraft.

Its... possible that this was essentially an ATC vectoring failure ... because there is no monolithic ATC in an active war zone.

  • Nom.

    Jump
  • He really did just like... essentially commit / attempt to commit infanticide, knowingly, multiple times, after being told not to, in the episode with the frog lady.

Its like how in the Wonder Woman 84 movie... yeah she functionally just raped a guy who was under mind control, mind control that she caused.

  • Just... lemme help folks out with the corpo speak here.

    'leading-end'

    Ok now watch this ->

    'lead-ending'

    mind explosion gif

  • ... his retort to Stavros clowning on him about not getting his dick sucked was essentially:

Do I get my dick sucked?

... dude why are we talking about this? So anyway...

He also claimed he did not need to shower, because he does not smell because he is not fat.

... dude is literally the uber basement dweller, it... it sounds like you're describing a fantastical stereotype when you just run through things he seems to think are totally normal.

  • If one is said to 'wax lyrical', would this not carry forward to 'wane gibbous', meaning to gibber as an ape?

  • Yeah, precisely.

There are actually quite a lot of regulations, in not all, but a lot of US states, that mandate varying levels of safe storage of firearms.

The problem is that to actually enforce that fully, you'd basically need surprise food inspectors, but for guns... which would probably run into the 4th Amendment... or, you'd have to actually revamp the 2nd Ammendment to mandate that people be required to regularly retake/retest on some kind of firearm safety course... I dunno.

But yeah, an actually responsible gun owner... probably has something like a dedicated sand bucket to point a semi auto weapon into, while they are verifying that its fully unloaded and cleared, juuuuust in case some kind of uncommanded discharge happens when you're racking the slide to get the (potentially) chambered round out.

And yeah, never sweep anybody (or a place where anybody could be, within a mile) even with a gun you personally just unloaded. Never finger a trigger when you don't need to. You just don't do that.

I would at least say its possible the dog discharged the weapon, but it doesn't matter, the situation where that is a thing that can happen should never have been allowed to arise... and yeah, the situations you describe that lead to an ND occuring are much more likely.

  • Here's an attempt at another one.

If you have a short sentence that tells a tale, but has been through a few rounds of 'telephone'...

... perhaps what you have is a quip of Theseus.

  • A modern upgrade to the ancient metaphor/philosophical quandary.

Still as apt, but probably more broadly relatable, at least to us veteran navigators that sail the digital seas.

... Maybe a good name for a repair shop or right to repair advocacy org, something with Theseus in it somewhere.

  • Lol, like a self inflicted 'aim to wound, not to maim' kind of injury, to stage a crime or get out of combat... hahaha!

  • You know I never actually þought about þat, but yeah, I don't þink I've ever actually seen or shot .22lr þat was anything other þan lead.

Presumably somebody does or has at least tried to make a jacketed .22lr? Or maybe þat's basically why .17hmr and such exist?
