  • I use ddg but find Google gives better results and Google's snippet feature still rocks.

  • They can enrich themselves pretty damn well without needing to rely on illegal immigrants. Trump will use them if he can, but he wants them out even more. That's the difference.

The real enrichment will come from union busting, destroying the NLRB, FTC, FCC, FDA, etc, deregulation, privatization of government departments (postal service, NASA), sweetheart court decisions, tax cuts, capital gains tax cuts, etc, which they will go full ham on. Illegal immigrant wages are next to nothing.

  • Case in point.

*This is going nowhere, so ciao.

  • He's going to deport pretty much as many as he can. The only limiting factor is logistics and courts (blocking him from using the military, etc). You're just hoping the system blocks him, like the Dems did to the wall. Right now he has all 3 houses. You really need to stop sticking your head in the sand.

  • Geezus. He's going to do what he said he's going to do. What is going on with Lemmy in this thread.

  • What I'm reading is they don't automatically deport you if you're an illegal immigrant, as of now. Maybe hearings, DACA, all the jazz about "he has dependent family here". They have addresses of DACA people, they know where a lot of illegal immigrants live.

  • It’s that the logistics of deporting millions of people is a lot more than they realize.

I believe I already covered this when I said "As for the exact number, it depends on the courts blocking things, the basic logistics of getting enough ICE ..."

    That's the only limiting factor.

realize they’ve bit off more than they can chew,

This is where we disagree. They may be forced to be slow, but they will go hard and try to get around the obstacles.

    The tariffs just work another

Sigh, I brought up tariffs because people keep saying (essentially) "they can't deport that many people, our economy depends on it". Well guess what the economy depends on trade and they don't care, they will put in tariffs. Just like they don't care about the hit to the economy from deporting people.

  • You said deportation is not the point, and I discussed how deportation is literally the whole point.

  • ...That doesn't mean he's not going to deport as many as he can. He can deport all illegal immigrants and there will still be plenty of POC to scapegoat. Then it's on the next thing: Segregation. He likely won't live long enough to do it, but the GOP will go for it.

And I think he does care (not that I support what he cares about), he is racist through and through.

  • They literally ran on "Mass Deportation". Not "targeted deportation". Not "deport the criminals". It was "MASS Deportation". They made how many millions of those signs? They literally plastered it everywhere. When someone tells you what they are going to do, believe them. Cheap labor is a minor hiccup they will give up to fuel their deep seated racism. If they cared about costs they wouldn't impose tariffs. They don't care.

I can't believe you guys are jumping through hoops and grasping at straws to think they won't do what they literally said.

  • It's the 'do as I say, not as I do'. He's super racist, everyone knows this.

As for the exact number, it depends on the courts blocking things, the basic logistics of getting enough ICE officers (this is where the court matters if they allow or block use of the military), and the legal hearing people get (also where the courts matter, I bet that Trump wants to bypass that). He will go as far as he can. Y'all need to wake up.

  • There's 7 comments so far saying Trump doesn't actually want them gone. C'mon guys, he wants immigrants gone. It's pure racism, he wants them gone and he wants a white Christian America. The only question is how far he gets before he croaks.

*I think I know what's going on, everyone here is in the bargaining stage of the 5 stages of grief.

  • I keep saying it. Republicans can twist, misportray, and outright lie. Dems are beholden to the truth.

  • So like how would this play out if he tries? Do the courts say no and tell the states to not put his name on the ballot? Do the states take it into their hands and not put his name off the ballot? What if enough states do put his name on the ballot to win, does the supreme court just say no if he wins?

  • Article says he thinks it's bluster.

  • Sky is the father in law who voted for Trump.

“All those criminals that Trump’s been talking about — the rapists, the gang members — that’s not you,” Sky said. He had heard Trump say that he would deport “the bad guys” first and possibly show leniency to immigrants who had been brought to the country as children.

“You deserve to be here,” Sky said. “To me, you’re basically American.”

    “But I’m not,” Jaime said.

  • They are beholden to the truth. To word it differently if it helps: they have to tell the truth, they have to be accurate, they have to explain reality, they have to explain how things work and why things don't work. It's the same reason left media doesn't hold a candle to right wing media. The right wing media can twist, misportray, and outright lie. But the left media can't, they are beholden to the truth.

I mean look at your reply. No offence, but it's the exact wordy reply to jump though all the hoops in order to be accurate that I'm talking about. It that doesn't hit. "We are trying" doesn't hit, people don't want that weak talk. "Republicans are blocking", guess what people don't want explanations, they want results. "Because they like..." holy cow you've lost everyone because they don't want to know about mechanisms, they want elementary speak like Trump does. Congress and how it works? Holy cow. People. do. not. care. People. do. not. understand. Add it all up and everyone has tuned it out. You are grossly overestimating how much people know and think. This is why Dem messaging sucks, they have to jump through all this just like you did (because they are beholden to the truth and being accurate) and the message doesn't hit.

I think I've said everything I can, it's just repeating.

  • Exports of electricity to the United States, millions of megawatt-hours

    2022

    Quebec 22.6

    Ontario 15.7

    BC 12.1

    Manitoba 10.4

Ontario's powers 1.5 million houses. That's about 6 million houses total.

  • Ok let's play this out.

Dems say "Trump didn't bring down grocery prices. He lied." It really doesn't accomplish much.

The message people want is "Trump didn't bring down grocery prices. He lied. We would have brought them down." Dems can't say that because they know bringing prices down is hard af, prices are sticky, and there's a good chance they wouldn't have been successful. They may have, but there's no guarantee and they know it. Because that's how economics work. Dems can't say that message because they are beholden to the truth.

What they are left with is the much weaker message of: "Trump didn't bring down grocery prices. He was unsuccessful. We would have tried to resolve the supply chain issues, and would pushed for higher wages indexed to cost of living, oh and investigate price fixing by companies." It's weak, wordy, and relies on mechanisms that people don't care to hear about. They have to tip toe around what they can say because they are beholden to the truth.
