Folks, let's not rush to conclusions… Maybe this person was blinded by money and couldn't see the evil because it was like staring into the sun. Maybe they were paid partly in stocks that only vested just now and they couldn't find their moral compass because of greed. It might be that they were able to land a new job that pays even more and only had the financial freedom to criticize Google because of it.
I'm just saying, we shouldn't assume that they didn't know Google was evil the whole time. They must be intelligent or they wouldn't have got the job.
/sarcasm (because some people are too stupid to be on the internet without an adult watching over them. i get that sarcasm is difficult to discern now that everything has become so outlandish, but you really shouldn't be using the internet if this went over your head.)

Fuck everyone in my mother's generation who won't step aside and let younger people hold office, buy houses (she lives alone in a three bedroom house), or start careers (a former CEO came out of retirement and accepted a low-level position part-time where my partner works just so he'd have "something to do" ten hours per week). Ted Cruz can't because he has only culture war and lies. Ron Wyden has real experience drafting laws and policy (Section 230). Wyden needed a republican turd to join up for a bi-partisan bill. He found a sucker who put his name on it (for all the wrong reasons, but right-wing dipshits don't look into anything, so it still works). Sometimes, you take what you can get to advance your cause.

Critics may chastise me for pulling all my pro-Wyden links from a single source (TechDirt). You can find the same info on his policies pretty much anywhere. I just like TechDirt's tone in calling things what they are. Any other serious (as in, not right-wing propaganda) reporters will agree on the facts of what he's done, but they are often coy / timid about calling out those acting in bad faith.

You know what you need to get a bill through? Bi-partisanship. We had it for the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Not that it did all that much in the long run, but at least it passed. You think we're gonna pass laws to (attempt to) hold this admin accountable without a repub putting their name on it? Fat chance. Use one of the dumb idiots to launder your message for their audience. Again, they're too stupid / thoughtless / disinterested to actually look into anything. It's a win.

You know what, you're right. There are classes of people who can't control their outcomes (skin color, sexual orientation, gender identity), and then there are those who can't control what decade they were born. That's exactly the same thing.

Boomers can't help stealing from their offspring because they were born at a time where that was wired-in. There's nothing they can do to improve their behavior. I'm so glad you corrected me for being a fucking bigot. All this time that I thought I was criticizing greed and power has actually been a misguided adventure into bigotry.

In the case of my mother: the first time, I couldn't understand why she was snowed by this obvious liar. The second time, I didn't care as much because he's obviously going to prison. The third time is when I said, "Fuck you." She has no access to my life anymore. Family members are to keep secret that I'll be in town to visit. She is never to know anything about me ever again. Ron Wyden co-authored Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act in 1996, which protects internet platforms from being held liable for user-generated content. It's a big reason that the internet exploded in popularity. We may need to revisit and increase regulation since seeing what social media became, but he's had a pretty great track record.

Yep to all of it. I've completely accepted that I'll never own a home because I prefer to live in the Bay Area and I'm priced out. My mother has an enormous house in the midwest for her and her cats and one dog. She has a backyard where I play hide and seek with her grandkids (my niece and nephew). It's pretty unnecessary, but I doubt she ever thinks about it.
