  • It is literally a male goat ("buck", not a donkey), but it is 99.9% of the time used as an insult, for an annoying person or someone that is fucking with you. Like "motherfucker" or "bastard".

Ps: this is in Spain. I think Mexicans are more liberal about its use.

  • That's how Stephen King writes his books!

  • Yeah, screensharing is not a thing in most clients, but I think it's a matter of time (years?) before it's properly implemented. In the meantime, you can use jitsi meet? Not sure if it covers your use case. I'll just copy this reddit comment, which has some good info:

Yes, it’s possible, but with some limitations. For video calls between a Linux and a Windows client using ejabberd, you need an XMPP client that supports WebRTC. Some options: • Dino (Linux) – Supports video calls but no screen sharing. • Gajim (Linux/Windows) – Can do video calls with plugins, but no screen sharing. • Jitsi (XMPP mode) – Supports WebRTC and screen sharing but requires a separate Jitsi server. Since most XMPP clients don’t natively support screen sharing, you have two main options: 1. Use Jitsi Meet, which integrates with XMPP and allows both video calls and screen sharing. 2. Use OBS VirtualCam (on Windows) to share the screen as a “camera” in a video call. If you want a fully functional setup with both video calls and screen sharing, setting up Jitsi Meet with ejabberd is the best approach.

  • Works fine. A bit slow to load, but less than 10s. Media plays just fine :)

  • I started self-hosting xmpp recently, and the calls work perfectly! You don't need to self-host either, there are plenty of public servers.

  • Literally just copying the game folder. I compress it as much as I can with 7zip and I put it on gameyfin. It works for games that don't have DRM*

Gameyfin is just for metadata and to download the games, it doesn't actually get them for you.

*For some games you need to do something extra. If you're interested I recommend you this resource.

  • It's funny I see this, as I'm on my phone while I rip and compress my (DRM free) steam games to put in gameyfin.

  • I'm gonna need a title and a timestamp! 😜

  • Paid by hours worked, at 10€/h and not given enough work.

  • A job that makes me in an hour more money than I make at my current job in a year? Sign me the fuck up.

  • 0.5c = 0.25m + 0.25h and you don't need to normalize.

  • Basically metal gear: ground zeroes' plot.

  • Is this a lemmy.world joke I'm too sopuli to understand??

(PS thank you to my admins, you're the bestest)

  • That's a good idea until you download a 10GB file and you wonder why you're out of RAM :P

I use /tmp as a temp folder for yt-dlp (it is faster than an HDD when adding metadata and subs to the video), and I've ran out of RAM before by downloading a video too big... Silly me, my laptop only has 8GB.

  • At the same time, can't bad actors just encrypt whatever they want to share, so that it can't be scanned?

In the end, regular users get the short stick.
