    Wait this is so true, and I've never even thought about it. Space photography has a lot of pictures from the Moon, Mars, and Venus (I've never seen those Titan photos, so thank you for the link), but there are no "real" photos of a planet with oceans. That might be where the "uncanny valley" kicks in, with my brain going "this doesn't look quite right". I do get a similar feeling when I see AIgen videos, so you might be onto something!

    I understand this, but I also get unease from RNG maps from games like Age of Empires or Anno, and I've talked to a couple of other people who also have experienced this, so I was wondering if there was an underlying psychology to it. However, it's not an easily Googleable query, and I refuse to ask an AI chatbot about it.

  • I think "the price" is some sort of loss of prestige from it's feeder schools and cultural capital after offering pro bono work to Trump. I know they lost a bunch of their top associates (really good ones too, apparently) but I heard from a friend who goes to Princeton that a lot of the law students didn't even want to article there anymore. I'm assuming it's the same for other big law schools, especially Harvard Law after Trump basically put a target on their backs.

    Cadwalader is like the oldest law firm in NYC, the "Taft" in the name comes from President Taft's brother Henry Taft. From what I understand from my friend (and her associates), it's actually crazy that they're merging with another legal entity.

  • You may make the distinction between saving a document and downloading a document, but most people don’t pay anywhere near that amount of attention, and don’t care about specifics.

    Covering "Most people" but not all cases is where most software goes awry. We should probably try to avoid that for something as universal as saving a file.

  • They won't, they're addicted (I say this as a sporadic TT user). Look at how shit FB has gotten, yet people still hang around. Tiktok's algo is 100x more addictive.

    The only positive for TT for me personally was that the bot problem wasn't as bad on it compared to other social media. I bet that will change pretty quickly.
