  • I just noticed a pattern of personality types that I didn't mesh well with. So it's best I don't see their opinions, nor give them mine.

    Like blocking all hexbear users. I'm sure I'm probably missing something worthwhile here and there, but overall my life is better without it.

  • I subscribe to ones I'm interested in. But sometimes I browse all to stumble across new interesting communities. I block the ones I see repeatedly and aren't interested in. I block mass posters, I block bots, I block tankies, I block mods/admins of larger communities. It just makes my all browsing time more efficient.

  • I use it to curate my lemmy experiance. 99% of the users/communities I block aren't for anything personal, they're just clogging up my ALL feed with things I dont care about (for example, sports ball or foreign language comms).

  • I just donate them when I'm done. Often you can buy the physical CD cheaper from places like discogs than you can a digital version. So I don't feel bad giving them away afterwards. Someone might even discover the bands I love.

    I'm about to pull the trigger on one of the electric litter boxes and this is something I haven't really though about. But I should, 'cause I swear my big boy is rotten inside. At one place I lived, there was an unused water heater closet with a vent running out the roof. I attached a PC case fan to the vent and put the litter box in there. Zero smell. Trying to figure out something similar at my current place.

    That's just an effective tactic. I'm way older than gen z and figured out a long time ago that unless a reply is absolutely necessary, just staying quiet and staring will get a transactional conversation to it's point and over much quicker.

    As an active caller, unless there is a ton of background noise, I may or may not get any indication that the person I'm calling has actually picked up. So I'm just going to sit there until they say something or hang up.

  • Stumbleupon was kind of like that. Along with being an early type of link aggregator, any website would have its own comment section that was only visible to other stumbleupon users.

    I used to enjoy it, and it looks like it may still be alive in some form. But I'm not brave enough to see how shitty it's become. I'll keep my rose tinted glasses on.
