Hi, I'm sbird! I like programming and am interested in Astrophysics and all things space. I also have a hobby of photography.

  • 1, 2, 3, ah ah ah

  • That's fair enough, nationalism has been the cause of both world wars, as well as most conflicts around the world.

  • Let me rephrase the question, which countries do you want to exist? Post has been edited to clarify

  • As for me, I would like a republic governed by the penguins in Antarctica, because penguins are pretty cool! And maybe we can give the different aquatic species sovereignty over the ocean, because that would make international trade a lot more interesting.

As for countries run by humans, I would chop South Africa in half so we can create North Africa, it feels a bit mismatched otherwise. And all the little British and French bits scattered around the world should be independent, we would get a lot of extra countries! Except French Guiana, so we can still say that the longest land border of the French is with Brazil. At the very least, only the bits that don't touch Brazil can become independent (win-win situation in my opinion).

Quebec can do its own thing, and maybe some of the United States could become less united. There's not enough countries in continental North America. You could do the same with Brazil and Argentina too for South America, imagine, we could have so many more Guays along with Paraguay and Uruguay, maybe enough to complete the alphabet! Siberian Russia can be broken up, because it bothers me that there are many countries in Central, South, and East Asia, but only Russia in the North.

  • But it looks like you post in bursts, multiple within a few minutes of each other, which doesn't help your case. This makes me think that they are planned, for whatever reason I'm not sure.

From your post history, it looks like you primarily post political news and memes, and many of these have been posted communities where it is off-topic. There are a couple harmless goofy memes in there though, so I don't think you're a bot

  • Speaking as somebody who is autistic (diagnosed with Asperger's as a kid), autism is a spectrum, it's not a blanket statement that autism is a serious mental disorder that "hinders average behaviour". This implies that you think autistic people are "not normal" and they can't do things that "normal" people can.

Yes, there are many cases of autistic children being nonverbal and having severe learning difficulties, and more care should be directed to assist them in their education. More attention should be directed at supporting them rather than big greedy corporations and the military. But it's not okay to put down others simply because they are autistic.

But of note, I do think the people who say things like "Autism moment haha" are not always in the right either, but this depends on context. It's something like how people say a joke is only funny if everybody is laughing, if you're the only one who thinks it is appropriate, it probably isn't.

Also, how is this a science meme?

It looks like this user posts lots of posts every hour, that's a little suspicious. That makes me doubt you have good intentions.

  • Shallow underwater breath, since phytoplankton require sunlight. Less sunlight can penetrate into deeper water

  • Maybe it depends on where you live? Since YouTube seems to change stuff every day

  • EndeavourOS with the latest KDE Plasma.

    Same here! It's awesome!

As for the actual question, I personally use FreeTube without an external player and it works fine enough. Maybe check if you have the latest version? It does occasionally reload but it never goes in a loop (at most it reloads two or three times).

  • give (gave?) money to omarchy

From my understanding, they donated a laptop to DHH, and when the community discovered it, Framework told everyone they are a "big tent", angering a lot of people (who are mad that FW is okay with financing individuals who want them and/or others dead, and rightly so)

I believe most people are angry about Framework's response to the whole ordeal, if Nirav apologised instead of holding his ground I don't think it would've been as controversial.

  • So the rise of (non-Chinese) Linux users is just a lot higher now? Super cool!

  • so our growth this month isn't coming from the Steam Machine

I would guess it's a lot of people finding out the price of the Steam Machine ($1049 with no controller is a lot!) and deciding instead to run Linux on a PC instead (either on an older/used machine or with new hardware that is cheaper + more performant than the Gabecube if you build it yourself)

Also interesting that Linux gained in a month where Chinese gained

Either that Linux gain was relatively high today, or perhaps more Chinese users are switching over to some form of Linux? I know Huawei can no longer sell laptops with Windows and are moving to HarmonyOS (which is based on its own thing apparently), but maybe some of the enterprise machines are using Linux, where they want to avoid rewriting preexisting software? Combination of both?

  • I have a small 32GB VenToy drive filled with a bunch of distros that I keep updated to a somewhat regular degree (Fedora Workstation and KDE, Mint, EndeavourOS, CachyOS, Bazzite Deck, and Pop! OS for a mix of different DEs)

I keep it around in case anybody is interested in installing Linux, it makes it effortless (no need to go download the ISO file from the website and flash it, removing a barrier of entry). I have used it exactly once, and I'm hoping I can use it again for somebody else!

  • I would say for most people Fedora is one of the best options due to having a release cycle that is quick but not too quick, coming with all sorts of different DEs (GNOME, KDE, Cinnamon, Cosmic, XFCE, hell, even Budgie), and not really having any issues in terms of usability (aside from installing Nvidia drivers, apparently that isn't very smooth but I have no experience with this)

Mint is nice too and super easy to use, but you need to like Cinnamon (or XFCE and MATE).

I personally love EndeavourOS, which is Arch-based and minimal OOTB, but it is definitely not for everyone. CachyOS falls under a similar box, being an Arch-based distro.

To be honest, in the modern age, there is no such thing as a bad Linux distro (except maybe Manjaro, which feels a bit like the worst of all worlds). Fedora, Mint, the buntus, the Arch derivatives, etc. are all really neat pieces of software!

  • Oh wow, they have an audio sample and everything! Looks like it's "for jeo" (pronounced like "Mateo")

  • This seems super cool, you can curate your own search index :O

Being able to preview your search results offline is quite neat too!

One question though, how will you solve the issue of "echo chambers", because from my understanding, it looks like it will only present results that you search for / have searched for, meaning for some people, you could be stuck with results that only support your view of the world.

  • Double checking now, looks like RAM pricing has increased for Framework, so with 32GB/2TB the FW is a little more expensive than the Apple (by about £100 depending on what ports you select), and the gap is similar for 16GB/1TB, but that's still very close (remember, Apple is in the top 2 of the richest tech companies in the world!), especially since FW is far better long term value.

One more thing, you can also BYO SSD, which can cut down cost by a lot if you already have one!

  • Well we are assuming the space cat (i.e. it is not an ordinary cat) is emitting a white light (it's a hot glowing cat!), that is, the peak is in the middle of the visible spectrum. The cat becomes closer to red as it moves away and to blue when it is moving towards us. If it goes fast enough, the peak shifts to IR (past the red) or UV (past blue/violet)

But yes, if it was a normal non-space cat, the peak would be in the IR normally (since cats are quite cool, in both senses of the word), and as it moves away the peak shifts to longer wavelengths, and as it moves towards us, it will go to shorter wavelengths, possibly becoming visible if fast enough.
