  • That sounds very interesting.

    I wanted to use the latest "GNOME parental Control" but my distro does not package it because it has some security design flaws.

    With this sysext option i could at least try it and see If it works without "altering" my System. Sure I could use e.g. a BTRFS snapshot. But this would also revert all other changes made after. With this sysext option I would be able to just revert the changes regarding parental control. Which is nice!

    Overall I agree with Torvalds standpoint: If you do Not want to use AI -> that's fine. If you want to use it and you are producing good results -> also fine If you want to use it and produce Bad results (e.g. do not review/Check theory output) -> Not good and your contribution will be rejected

    It is a tool. Use it as such.

    Of course this does not cover the economics of AI and If these huge Investments will pay for themself in the Future .

  • I would also propose going with Tailscale instead If a VPN + DynDNS solution. Imho it is a lot easier to Setup compared to VPN + DynDNS If you are a beginner and just starting out.

    If at some point you need more and then is available in the free Tier of Tailscale and you do not want to pay for it (and you have built up some knowledge!) you can switch to something like Headscale or Netbird.

    MakeMKV gives you a pile of VOB files

    For me MakeMKV gives me a single or multiple (depending on how many I choose) .mkv files for the video files vailable on a DVD/BlueRay. I can then decide to use them as they are, or run them through Handbrake to convert to my desired format.

    Isn't this the case on your side?

  • The interesting thing is that it does not look like a permanent/always thing. A couple of days I also got these Pop-Ups (which you can circumvent by using "Desktop-Mode" in your mobile Browser) but I do not get them anymore. Is some kind of A/B testing ongoing or did they remove the changes?

    Was ist using AI for assisted writing? Maybe. But I don't have a Problem with that. I assume everyone ist using it to some extend (me included) and uses it as a tool as any other tool.

    The Data is the actual interesting Thing. Would be cool If the author could share his data (of course IP's or other personel information must be anonymized/hashed). If that is made up by AI...Well there goes your credibility. But I don't assume that from the beginning.

  • Even for M1 MacBooks Asahi does not support things like Thunderbolt, DP Alt Mode, Fingerprint Reader, etc. Also Power management is still a problem because Apple doing things differently then other ARM devices. https://asahilinux.org/docs/platform/feature-support/m1/

    If I am Buying a 2000€+ Laptop I want everything to work. Not flawlessly, but at least working. And Asahi is not there. That's what I mean with "not suitable as a daily driver". If this is good enough for someone, thats fine. I am happy for them and they should enjoy their device. But most other people buying such laptops would not be happy.

  • As long as Asahi does not support the M5 this is not an option. And since it will always be lacking behind due to the need of reverse engineering everything it is not a suitable daily Driver. But it is a cool project nevertheless.

  • You can use Joplin without Paying. You only need to pay for Joplin Cloud for syncing. But you can use a selfhosted Joplin Server or Webdav to sync you notes without it.
