  • Who in their right mind gives an AI access to do whatever without asking for permissions? Especially when asking for permissions is the default? This is 100% on the user.

  • Well, I'm happy that it's dying as well. That place got horrible. When AI first arrived, I was happy I don't have to spend much time on SO.

I have accrued a fair amount of points on there through the years, I really liked the concept. But around 2020 or so I pretty much stopped answering because it got more and more hostile.

Like, when someone closes a question because it's a duplicate of a vaguely related question from over a decade ago in a version that's been out of support for a decade and the relevant API doesn't even exist, you know it's not a good place. And that happened extremely often.

It used to be good, then it got shitty and got replaced with something else. Not as good as StackOverflow at its best, but much better than StackOverflow at its end.

  • What the fuck? There goes my enjoyment of Underworld, I guess. Now I'm always gonna see her zombie-looking face trying to persuade people that yeah, her son-in-law really shits eggs.

  • This is the US you're talking about, they consider it nice if their elected officials apply lube before raping them.

  • Pretty much all of my open source. It's not literally zero, but over the whole time I made as much from open source as I make in two hours in my regular job.

So yeah, two hours paid out of over a decade of open source is basically $0.

I don't make any ground breaking stuff, so I don't expect to live off of it, still would be nice to buy a lunch once a month from stuff thousands of developers use.

  • The story so far: In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

  • For how many more articles are they gonna milk the "story"?

  • Well, unlike God this at least sounds possible, even though yeah, it's a pointless discussion, not provable nor unprovable.

  • No, we can't prove we're in a simulation or outside of it. We can prove that we can't currently create such a simulation but that doesn't change anything.

  • What a bunch of nonsense. So, pseudo-scientists repeat after me: you cannot derive rules of the outer universe from the inner universe.

The only way to "prove" the hypothesis is if an admin sends a message or leaves some other way for us to discover we're in a simulation, other than that it's unprovable and undisprovable.

  • I did maintenance, I just didn't want to invest into it more than I paid for it.

  • Well, that's why you'll have to try out. Or ask someone to at least try whether it opens, the apps mostly either fail on start because they require a Google certified Android, or they don't fail at all.

  • What's it made of? Adamantium? I managed to reach 200k kilometres (~120k miles) with one of my previous cars and I was afraid it would just break and the repairs would cost more than the car did (which did happen, but not to me, it was after I sold it for a 30-pack of beers).

  • Nothing like using your mom's dildo.

  • Though it looks like that could change eventually with a Linux phone.

SailfishOS is mostly daily drivable, depends on which Android apps you need (there's a compatibility layer to run Android apps on it), with bank apps it's often a problem.

  • Simply a wrong URL: https://lemvotes.org/

Anyway, there's no way to hide the information. The instances need to communicate with each other and send each activity, so if I upvote something, my instance notifies yours (and every other it federates with) about it so that your instance can display it as well.

That's most likely how the site works - it's simply an ActivityPub server which gets notifications from every server that federates with it.

Theoretically, your instance admins could defederate from them and then it would stop getting updates.

  • Shows thousands for my user. If it's implemented using activity pub (which makes the most sense) it needs to federate with all the instances and instances rarely send historical data. Meaning that all your new upvotes and downvotes will be tracked currently, but historical accuracy might be shaky.

  • We have figured out big stuff and small stuff very well! And if it weren't for the little fact they share the same universe, it would be very good general theories.

  • It's not incorrect, if by "apes" you mean hominids (which is what it usually refers to), then we're part of that family and by extension we're what's colloquially known as apes.
