  • I've heard of people having similar experiences on Mastodon as well. Seems like these smaller communities of early adopters tend to simply be more active and pleasant to interact with.

  • Then try subscribing to communities that have something of interest to you.

  • Considering your previous experience with Ubuntu, I would recommend Debian. Just make sure to get the right ISO for what you want.

Since you're complaining about Ubuntu not working with ACPI power states, my next recommendation would be Endeavour to be more up to date and get fixes and stuff sooner. It's pre-configured Arch.

  • It's the app the comment above me was recommending. I just wanted to make that clear and show that it was available outside the app stores as well.

  • Not sure if you're on desktop or mobile. On mobile I'm using Mull with uBlock origin in medium mode. I don't see any videos in the article you linked and I don't see most of the annoyances many people complain about.

This is a rather strict setup that can break some sites, but over time you can tune it to make most sites work without intervention on future visits.

  • I'm all for user agent settings, but I don't want to mess with that for work stuff. So, I just use Chrome or Edge for that one site.

  • I know it is. That's exactly why I mentioned that happening. Sorry if that was unclear.

ETA: I just read my previous comment again. I meant to say Vivaldi, not Opera.

  • I don't use it, but from what I understand it's from the developers of Opera before it became a Chinese spyware browser. Back when it was good. It's great if you're looking for customization and options.

As a disclaimer, the reason I don't use it is because I need a Chromium browser for work and Vivaldi (a Chromium based browser) gave me an error that said I need to use Chrome or Edge.

  • I recently had to move, because my previous instance is shutting down. I got to keep all of my settings and the communities I follow. It also kept blocked accounts and communities, but not blocked instances.

ETA: Comments were not transferred and I'm assuming posts won't be either.

  • I agree with spreading it across multiple smaller servers. Sadly, this is my third account after my previous instances shut down. So, there are some risks on that side as well.
