  • The Weathermen were, objectively speaking, terrorists. Their praxis was to scare the politicians into stopping the various imperialist wars.

Noble goals (and that bathroom in the Pentagon had it coming) but they were terrorists.

  • *pedant, not pendant

  • Fellas I dunno if reposting Twitter roasts is newsworthy. Ted Cruz is a fucking joke and American politics are deeply unserious, but surely y'all got more important things to report on than random Twitter posts.

  • I get what you mean. I won't pretend like bigotry isn't a core plank of the platform of the GOP or Independent Ireland. Still, an awful lot of bigoted people still felt the allure of people like Bernie Sanders and may join a trade union in certain circumstances. Such things also go a long way towards moving them away from bigotry if they succeed, because it shows that gay people and migrants were never the thing making them miserable.

My point though is moreso that saying that the farmers had it coming and giving up on them is not how one digs one's way out of the pit one is stuck in. I don't particularly wanna turn my back on conservative communities as irreparably fucked and feel proud of being smarter than them. I would like the community around me to be better. And saying that the farmers had it coming rather than using the opportunity to push them left is essentially patting oneself on the back for moral superiority rather than making life better.

I'm a migrant myself. I chose to come another country and integrate myself. I'd quite like it to be nicer, y'know?

  • Did Hispanic farmhands vote for Republicans? They're the ones that are gonna be directly at risk of getting screwworms in their injuries. If the bosses scale down operations, they're gonna be the ones who lose their jobs.

Do the 12% of farmers in Tennessee who are black also deserve to get fucked?

You do not defeat right-wing populists with snobbery. You defeat it by offering a compelling left-wing alternative that addresses the economic issues which bigotry is peddled as an alleged solution to.

  • Are the folks employed by the owners, the ones who are personally at risk of getting screwworms in their wounds and at risk of losing their jobs so bosses can keep up profits, entitled welfare queens? They're poor workers like you.

And what of the black farmers in Tennessee? They overwhelmingly vote for the Democrats. Do they also deserve parasites in their cattle?

  • Do you think all of them voted this way?

As I said, a bunch of the people hurt by this are gonna be immigrant labourers, black people, etc. They're in the shit with you, not against you. You're not gonna get them organized and mobilized to stand alongside you by dismissing them and lumping them in with their bosses.

  • I have spent quite a bit of time trying to convince Irish farmers to be left-wing, to understand that imperialism is the reason their gas prices are high and not the carbon tax. One of the biggest obstacles is that to them the urban left and liberals dismiss them as lost causes. Of course they don't vote for snobs who don't know wtf the CAP is and think that everyone outside of Dublin is an idiot redneck. Of course they listen to the silver-tongued devils of the right.

They were consistently surprised I care at all. Is that not shameful?

  • If you utterly dismiss farmers as incorrigibly stupid rather than trying to talk with them, they will never change. If you leave agricultural workers to the wolves while the fascists pretend to have their backs, will they support you or the fascists?

Did you know most of the majority-black counties in the USA are rural areas in the South that vote overwhelmingly for Democrats? Are they also ejeets that deserve to get their cows screwed?

What about the people who get screwworms in their injuries? That's gonna be the poor bastards who get employed to work with the livestock. Who works in shitty underpaid farm labour? Poor whites, black people, immigrants. People who have few other choices.

Snobbery against rural areas is just classism. It's how Republicans could get such a grip on them in the first place. Go ahead and only struggle amongst educated people in the cities and scratch your head when when your country stays fascist. Watch the rural-urban divide get wider.

  • Part of the point is that the Emperor is also not perfect. He got too full of himself which led to his deification against his will. He was also literally an imperialist and an authoritarian.

As I interpret the lore his intentions were largely noble but his hubris and refusal to acknowledge the existence of the Chaos gods led to the disillusionment of many of his kids/generals, thus leading to the Horus Heresy and the shitty state of the 41st millennium.

  • Yeah but the dictator will kill the sans-culottes who get uppity and the response to excess headrolling is reaction and moderation of the more radical goals of the process. Burn the guillotine, as the Parisian communards did.

  • Missa times acceleration

  • Conserva means tinned food in Russian. This would work too given the stereotypes of the sort who would eat tinned food.

A bit of classism involved, but meh.

  • Gap in 2025 could also mean being in prison

  • Fair play to you :)

  • No idea if you already know these places (you probably do) but The Cobblestone, Peader Brown's, and McDowells are all great pubs that are perfectly happy serving a drink to anyone of any orientation.

Sorry for the bother if you already know.

  • To their immense credit the NRA is against this. Probably because the gun lobby wants to sell guns to scared trans people.

  • Never read the Halloween Documents, have you?

Look at converting some social homes in city-centre flats into cost-rentals, says Taoiseach’s group

  • I often fry whatever vegetables I can find and add a fried egg.

Rice and buckwheat are very cheap (and vegan if you're of that persuasion). If you cook buckwheat, you can add a few tiny bits of sausage in there and you've got a very filling meal.

Oatmeal is great because you buy it in huge bags that last long and you can eat it for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If the budget is not that bad you cook it with milk. If it is you cook it with water (this is called gruel, medieval peasant food). If you're making gruel add a bit of salt to make it more palatable.

An old classic is of course ramen, but the ramen bricks can be made much more filling if you boil them in a pot with a sausage or two (this requires you to have sausage).

If you live in certain tropical areas you can harvest some edible fruits from unfenced land and use this to enrich your diet.

Eating a couple extra hours of sleep for breakfast instead of food is a dubiously healthy but certainly effective way to save some money on weekends.

A pro tip is if your drawer is not very clean your onions will start to sprout and take root. I didn't have to buy onions for about half a year at one point because I just kept cutting off a bit and it kept growing back. I didn't water them or anything, they just did that in my dark dingy cupboard.
