  • Thank you. In my case, unfortunately, changing the HandleLidSwitch* options didn't work. Luckily changing udev settings did the job!

  • My laptop's lid doesn't have hinges, that's part of the problem. But besides that, it's simply something I don't want. For me it's enough if the power button and the "Fn" button wake up the laptop.

  • If you have a Lenovo laptop, these are the keys:

    Press Alt key (or whatever key maps to Alt, if you've made key remappings) and keep it pressed all the time, while doing as follows, where "Fn" is the function key:

    • Press Fn+s, release Fn+s, press r
    • Press Fn+s, release, press e
    • Press Fn+s, release, press i
    • Press Fn+s, release, press s
    • Press Fn+s, release, press u
    • Press Fn+s, release, press b

    You see the sequence gives "REISUB".

    When pressing keys or key combos, keep them pressed for a second or so. If you press a wrong key, restart from the beginning.

  • It was exactly as you said; a difference I didn't know about. Also confirming that Kubuntu apparently installs them system-side, even if flatpak install ... is called without sudo, again as you inferred. I don't know how I managed to install them user-side in one laptop, but now they mirror each other :)

    For others interested, these two commands show the difference, as explained by another user in a cross-post:

  • I wish, but I'm not so sure. Look at what happened with the Californian age-verification laws and Systemd for example. Some (arsehole, in my personal opinion) FOSS developers hurried up and bent over backwards to start complying. We'll probably end up having "Linux" distros that will comply, and Linux distros, probably distributed via secret channels, that won't.

  • First of all we should submerge the EU parliament with protests, as we did for the chat-control question. Then protest marches, strikes, and so on. Then simple non-compliance. Whatever is undemocratic has automatically null morally legal validity.

    I think we can still use the https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ platform for this. Just need to change the text and protest against age verification.
