  • Good for you! From what I hear the implementation and seemingly also key combo can vary. I read an article about someone using timers so that's all I can say about that. I'm staying away from anything with a copilot key so I don't have any experience myself.

  • Yes, normal key is a key down event when pressed and key up event when released.

    Copilot key has different functionality AFAIK on different laptops / keyboards. It will fire several key down events followed by release events. When you let go it will not give any events.

    Shortly, yes it behaves like a key combo pressed and released in some order.

    Thus, there are several lengthy articles for workarounds.

    And it is not standard procedure, unfortunately.

  • The page doesn't even mention copilot key, which is a clisterf*ck and not mappable by normal means. There is no key up event when letting go, instead there are several key down and key up events when pressing it down. This makes it almost impossible to use as a modifier key for example.

    In short, pressing the key you get several key down and key up events. Letting go of the copilot key will produce no events.

    You cannot in any sensible way map this to any modifier key. Unless you set some kind of timer, which will never produce the exact same result but something a bit like it.

  • I would recommend pika for easy backup, steamdeck (or even a windows pc) could have problems with cloud saves. If you want real backups you should set up deduplicated archives. This means you just install pika and click a couple times. You can set it to backup over ssh. The deduplicated compressed backup is often smaller than source data size even if it has years of archives.

  • I can recommend duplicati on windows or pika backup (which is a borg backup gui) on linux. Then just make a user on raspberry pi and enter the ssh login in your backup client and you're set.

    Duplicati / Pika / Borg will encrypt the backups for you! So there is no danger of someone reading or changing your backups. You could use even some free cloud storage to store the backups safely. It really doesn't matter where you store them.

    Rsync won't deduplicate or make archives so you cannot restore a backup from any chosen date. Rsync is sync not backup.

  • It seems you did not read the article. I don't see anyone being on the side of these age verification laws. What they are saying is that the laws are bad for Linux and it's users even if Linux was left out of the laws' scope.

  • If services start just blocking Linux, that is really bad for Linux users and adoption rates. It does not matter what apps you personally think are worth sticking with. It will just make Linux worse for everyone.

    The point of this article is clear: that these laws are a problem to Linux and everyone even if Linux is left out of the scope.
