    What was the point of saying, "let me know if you see an ad" if you just ignore people telling you and showing proof that they're seeing ads 😂 also curious why the "last week tonight" channel would not be monetized. I think maybe I've just fed a troll.

    Edit: of the 5 or 6 times I loaded the video, it loaded once with no interruption, once with a YouTube survey, the remaining three or four all had ads...

  • How did you find it easier to send this comment to every person disagreeing with you than it was to simply look it up? YouTube itself says they can and do put ads on any video they'd like. Even if everyone watched your linked video and didn't get an ad (I got a YouTube survey) it would prove nothing, ads don't show up every watch.

    YouTube has been putting ads in non-monetized videos for over a decade now, my channel from middle school would occasionally show an ad and we were too small to even enable monetization.

  • There was also a series of videos at his own new house where he's getting the LMG employees to work on things for him at his house.

    Thank you for reminding me of another thing that put me off.

    One of the employees that left is quoted as saying, "there's a moment when you're working on your boss's third home when you start to wonder if you'll ever be able to afford your own".

    That stuck with me.

  • It sounds impressive to people who aren't in the field. Like "scientist" or "doctor". You might be really dumb but when you drop that title it tends to catch attention, warranted or not.

    What happened here? I see some things about people being upset about how little he pays his kids for appearing in videos but I'm not sure that's what you're referring to?

  • I definitely feel like he lost touch a long time ago.

    There was a video that was hosted at one of his employee's houses (I've tried to find the video before but couldn't) and there were multiple points where Linus was being incredibly rude to the guy's new home. He was making fun of things for looking cheap, and at one point stood on (or placed something heavy, I don't remember) a table as the owner asked several times not to in fear of it damaging the table. The video didn't really get much attention as far as I'm aware, but it left a bad taste in my mouth and I kinda stopped watching as many of their videos.

    A few years later the fiasco with the prototype they sold without permission happened and his reaction and the fallout that ensued took LTT off my subscription list.

    The video where he talks about how it just didn't make sense not to buy a private jet was so far beyond out of touch I don't know how anyone thought it was a good idea (the video, not the jet).

  • Do you have a list of approved activities that we are allowed to enjoy into adulthood? I'm afraid some of the aspects of life that bring me joy may not be mature enough. What other things should I stop enjoying based on age?

  • Yup. Maybe I'm just a lazy bum but I can only really handle college a few years at a time. My first time was awful, I wasn't ready and blew off half the year I went. My last go was 2 years long and I did incredibly well, but transferred to a new career using my newfound knowledge and had to put a pause on things. Now I'm about 2 years into that and am just starting to feel like I have the mental wriggle room to start thinking about picking up a class or two... I may be 50 by the time I end up actually "completing" something! But one of my last classes had a gentleman in his 60s, so I'm not too worried. Everyone has their own speed, just find yours.

  • Seconding this. The library was my best friend when I was still in school (I did not finish my degree but the field I am in was satisfied with what I'd accomplished). I made myself do most of my homework there and it's probably one of the main reasons I got as far as I did. My college had private study rooms with a large table and white board in them; some people would isolate themselves in there and use it for a large workspace for their own projects, but when I was in Gen Chem (that class nearly killed me), I was there with classmates most weeks doing study groups.

    OP, if you are the introverted type, these informal study groups are one of the best ways you can get to know people imo. It's like the classroom, because you've all got the same class, tests, homework etc, but it's less formal and more social. It was my favorite place to share the weird ways I made the concepts make sense to me, and next to my professor was the best source of information.
