  • I wanted to give a baby a nice home and if my application goes through, then I’ll give Rynn the best life I can!

  • Bonus photo because she’s so cute

  • Who wants to celebrate? Drinks on me, or edibles if you want that instead

  • I can’t believe they gave the cat a 9-5 😭

  • No let’s not do that. Building these slopstations will only contribute to the build up of space debris. Making it harder for future generations to have access to the stars. Just shoot them into a mountain side, or the ocean floor instead. Far more economical too.

  • Hey Hakeem Jeffery how about doing something meaningful and helpful for your constituents and the country at large. Rather than being just another spineless, feckless coward? How about understanding that the people choice Mandani and the candidates he supported? How about understanding that the people are fed the fuck up with you and the establishment’s endorsement of right wing and far right wing ideals? Have you considered that asshole? Doubt it. Send another strongly worded letter, surely the 11,000th one will be the one that will finally impact change…

  • Only reason I’ve been to a clinic or a hospital in the last year was because my wrist hurt so much I had to. And that I work in EVS so I clean the damn place.

  • This is the recipe I used, copied straight out of my recipe list

    Penne ala Vodka

        1. Ingredients
            1. 16 oz Penne Pasta
            2. 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
            3. 4 tablespoons Butter
            4. 1 Onion
            5. 2 Garlic Cloves (2 teaspoons of minced garlic)
            6. 1/2 cup Vodka
            7. 1/2 cup Tomato Paste
            8. 1 1/2 cup Heavy Whipping Cream
            9. Salt
            10. Pepper
            11. Basil (Thinly Sliced)
            12. Parmesan

        2. Instructions
            1. Boil a generously salted pot of water for the penne and cook it al dente according to package directions
            2. Meanwhile, add the oil and butter to a skillet over medium heat
            3. Sauté the onion for about 5 minutes or until softened (ok if it lightly browns)
            4. Stir in the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds
            5. Add the vodka and let the sauce bubble
for 30 seconds or so
            6. Stir in the tomato paste until you've got a smooth mixture
            7. Stir in the cream, and reduce heat to medium-low
            8. Let the sauce warm
through
            9. I find this sauce thickens up very quickly (within a couple minutes), but feel free to cook it a little longer to thicken it up even more
            10. Season with salt & pepper as needed
            11. Stir in the fresh basil if using
            12. Toss with the drained pasta (if needed, thin the sauce out a bit with a splash of hot pasta
water prior to draining it)
            13. Serve with freshly grated parmesan cheese

  • Ooo this is the same situation I am in, love that nobody with the power to act actually cares about putting measures in place to hold people accountable. So now pretty much all my important data is out there forever and I can’t do shit about.

    Yay…

  • While I get this is a meme, I do think the imperial measurement system deserves some credit. More the vast majority of humanity’s existence it has been an incredibly capable and powerful system. It’s only in more modern times where a system like metric is an upgrade. This is also ignoring the few ways where imperial still eke out a win, but that is besides the point.

Imperial’s weird gaps between units are pieces that come from a variety of different systems that got layered together over the centuries it lasted. 5280 feet in a mile? Based on the Roman mile which was 5000 paces from a soldier. 12 inches in a foot? From a different way people counted on their hands.

Length of an inch and length of a foot? From different parts of the body. Weird? Certainly. Practical? Amazing so. They were easier for day to day tasks and for measuring on the small, human scale. Metric is easier to calculate between different units and that is an amazing innovation.

Fahrenheit is weird today, but was more practical when it was first established. Even then it has value in how it is more granular without the necessity of decimals. Celsius is still the better unit, 0° being freezing and 100° being boiling for water is very useful. It gives you two easy to remember extremes.

Imperial had to walk, so metric could run in a way. Both systems are great in their own ways and in their own times. Imperial isn’t needed anymore, but deserves recognition for being good for its time and for being more practical historically.

The only dud metric really has is metric time, and that is because everything we have ever done has been based on the older time keeping system. Cultures have laid claim to certain dates and times of day within the old system that just have constrained us to it.

I definitely prefer metric overall, but I genuinely believe that imperial deserves more credit for getting us to the point where metric makes sense to swap to.

  • Yes social media is a problem, however that alone does not justify banning everyone under 21 from using the entire internet. As the person who I replied to said they wanted.

Social media is its own problem that’s needs regulations to come under control.

  • Also since they weren’t allowed on the internet till they were 21, those 21 year olds won’t know how to act on the internet. So now there’s 21 year olds roaming around who will need to figure all that shit out. They might get other aspects of being an adult but the internet will be completely alien.

It’s like when I saw people saying kids shouldn’t be allowed into the grocery store because someone was annoyed that kids didn’t know how to behave there yet. You just create a new and larger problem where adults don’t know how to act.

  • I don’t think that’s the solution though, kids (including teens to some extent) can be on the internet but it requires better parenting. It’s better to monitor what they are doing online until they are like 15 or 16, maybe 17 if you have a really good reason too. Limit screen time, be around to answer questions your kid has about what they might see.

Little kids though? Absolutely should be off the internet. Anyone under 10 shouldn’t be on the internet period in my opinion. 10-12 is kinda a gray zone to me where it’s definitely up to the parents and if they think their child is ready.
