Good on Nick. Do what you want buddy, you had a good run. Go have some fun doing what you love.
Now it's time for a corporate user of libxml2 to donate resources for maintenance and bug fixing or forking it. It doesn't always have to be on the shoulders of unpaid maintainers.
I really suggest you read the post. Your arguments have already been addressed there. GPL and AGPL do absolutely nothing for maintainer and dev compensation.
The community has told us that “open source” has a particular meaning to them and suggested we call it “source available” instead. We have been reluctant to do so for numerous reasons .
I suggest you read the article as you are simply using the OSI bible. The bible of those calling AI code opensource , mind you.
Our use of the term “open source” thus far has been not out of carelessness, but out of disdain for OSI approved licenses which nevertheless allow developers to be exploited by large corporate interests. The OSI, an organization with confidential charter members and large corporate sponsors, does not have any legal right to say what is and is not “open source”. It is arrogant of them to lay claim to the definition.
I'm 100% onboard with this. FUTO is opensource in all the ways I care about. It's anti-bigtech and pro compensation of maintainers and developers. They are good in my book.
Why make your own phone? Why not partner with Fairphone? Fairphone seems to be the only vendor out there that sells phones with an alternative ROM (/e/ OS), they might very well be open to an alternative OS like Sailfish.
Allows connecting to other devices with KDE connect and sharing files, controlling media players, sending text messages, controlling the mouse and keyboard (if the device has that), and much more.
I install it by default on every device I have and even setup a computer as a media player in my living room that I control with my phone. Just connect an old laptop or desktop with Wake On Land or with autosleep and autologin and you won't need a firestick or whatever.
The effort is appreciated and while some brands can definitely be undoubtedly terrible (like Apple which doesn't have a single phone the expressively allow you to unlock), many brands have a mix of phones that allow unlocking.
I'd much rather have a long table I can filter and sort than just a blanket "this brand is terrible and should be avoided". Also, that verdict should be reached by a list of common criteria with a point system. It should just be the author of a page that decides a company's rating.
The Dutch government has expressed interest in using Forgejo for its national code platform. Currently, they rely on GitHub, but they are looking for alternatives for storing, collaborating and building government code. This is part of the Open Source Program Office (OSPo)‘s efforts to regain digital sovereignty. Throughout the month, a call also took place between a representative from the office and some Forgejo contributors.
Moreover, it is pleasing to hear that the office expressed interest in exploring ways to contribute back to the project.
Now this, this I like. If the dutch government also invests in federation, that would be amazing. First they have to tie the knot of course...
It really pisses me off when something doesn't work and the first thing someone says is "must be Linux". Bro, I moved away from Windows because of all the bugs there. Don't try to bullshit me into thinking you live a bugfree life.
My system is as fast as when I first got it (minus maybe the extra bloat websites have acquired due to bugger JS libraries and unnecessarily big assets). On windows reinstalling every year or every second year was normal.
