  • This is a great policy for amateur (ham) radio. Start with the $25 Baofeng that barely receives and transmits all over the spectrum*, then grab the Alinco or TYT, eventually working one's way up to Kenwood, Icom, Yaesu, etc.

    A good transceiver is expensive so working up to the big boys is definitely worth the investment if the hobby takes hold.

    *Baofengs are probably the worst first handheld transceiver (HT) because they are so poorly designed and quality control is non-existent. A new ham with a Baofeng is likely to become frustrated and give up. Check out the various ham radio/amateur radio communities for better suggestions for starter HTs if ham radio is of interest to you.

  • Did your insurance cover the repair? If so, you might be able to use them as leverage. Most insurance companies will work on behalf of a customer who gets fucked over by the collision department.

    My 2010 Highlander was involved in a front-end collision. When Shit Collision, Inc, replaced the plastic bumper they broke the two body panel brackets that held the quarter panels above the wheels to the new bumper. Rather than admit the mistake, suck up the cost as a mistake, and carry on, they told me it's "supposed to be like that" (i. e. sticking out an inch and a half from the rest of the car's body).

    No matter the amount of bullshit I called on them they wouldn't budge. So I called my insurance company. After a tense exchange between Manager McNuts and Adjuster Andy, the body shop still said no so I went elsewhere, insurance covered it, and Shit Collision, Inc., is an empty brick building now.

  • Small instance owner here. All are welcome. We have one really busy community here, and a few others that are just getting going that you might find interesting. You like World of Warships? The Last of Us? St. Louis Battlehawks? Abandoned Buildings?

    You'll notice some of these communities are a ghost town. Images are broken and there's a rat eating pizza. So step up. Avoid the large, overwhelmed, weirdly-political instances and give us little guys a chance.
