"If man chooses oblivion, he can go right on leaving his fate to his political leaders. If he chooses Utopia, he must initiate an enormous education program - immediately, if not sooner."-R B Fuller

  • Usually the pointer is the blahblah the teacher was droning while you were fantasizing about the attractive classmate sitting directly in front of you

  • Kid has discovered a new kind of Reimann topological first-order predicate calculus and the mouthbreathing teacher doesn't even recognize it.

  • I finally really realized both that I am old and that I am mortal after both my parents died.

Got something you want to do? Get cracking.

  • all its time buffering.

Could be a zillion reasons for this. Need an actual instance to debug

  • Some channels use Ghost instead of Patreon, including one of my favorites Anders Puck

  • Even though it's no longer tractable for the casual hobbyist (me) to run a node, Invidious is still usable thanks to absolutely heroic effort by the ~4 organizations still willing and able to invest the crazy infrastructure needed to prevent GOOG from blocking them.

  • getting what I pay for

GOOG and all its affiliated advertisers -- essentially, every corporation on this planet -- now knows not only all your browsing and watching habits, but also that you are a likely good return on investment for more mining, more fine-grained targeting, more scrutiny.

  • What did you want it to do?

Did you set up a node? Did you promote it & grow a user base? Federate?

  • You can’t really monetize PeerTube

Lots of channels have a link to their Patreon or a tip jar; lots do live reads.

  • There was an animated gif of this with explosions between, +10 million Internets if anyone can find it

  • At one point, I was undergoing a divorce that threatened to ruin me financially and estrange me from my kids. The stress triggered an underlying previously unknown-to-me autoimmune disease (Crohn's) that left me in wracking pain and unable to control my bowels. At the same time, my job was threatened and I had to pull 10+ hour debugging sessions. And because of contentious divorce allegations, I was getting drug tested and couldn't even chew an edible.

It was during those months that I learned:

    • I cannot self-terminate. If I could, I would have.
    • Graduate-level science and math courses on YouTube that you are not actually getting graded on are the greatest salvation. No stress, only info that is real, challenging, and deeply meaningful.
    • Chocolate milk can save your life
  • hard to do if the site is inaccessible because LE took it down

  • I had a crush in middle school. Back then you signed your name on a physical card to remove a book from the library. I saw that she had rented A Wind in the Door just before me. I was so thrilled to ask her about it. She vaguely remembered losing interest and hadn't read Wrinkle. Heartbreak.

I got married to a completely different woman a few decades later. She had a long commute, was looking for audiobooks, ofc I suggested Wrinkle . Her take-away? "Couldn't get past what a whiny bitch Meg Murray is. Had to stop."

Jesus fuck what is with you people
