  • I'm a guy, and I imagine you're correct. Hormones change over time and with age. I usually get blood work done when I go in for a physical and have had those conversations. Everything is looking good, I'm just getting older. He did encourage me to keep up the exercise.

  • The average American lifestyle kind of discourages exercise and eating well. It's also very stressful. I certainly can't fault people for not doing it. I imagine those conditions exist a lot of other places too. I also started gaining a bit more weight in my mid to late thirties but I also rediscovered bicycling during that time. I didn't really lose any weight, but the way it was concentrating in my belly slowed down or even reversed a little bit. I'm amazed at how much it balanced my mood. Still working on those glutes of steel though.

  • Yeah, I'm sure the customers weren't happy either when their friendly, helpful PoC was suddenly replaced with a clanker that has the intellect of a rotten potato, likely at a time when everyone was still struggling to hold shit together as it was.

  • We could choose to have a Nuremberg Trial moment instead... but anime titties.

  • I wrote a hell of a lot of TI-83 BASIC programs in my day. Along with learning basic HTML, it was my intro to programming. The good games were the assembly language games though and you had to trade with your friends to find and get the good ones. There was a Gallaga type space shooter that was top notch.

I was working on a side-scrolling skateboarding game. Can't remember if I every finished it.

  • Yeah, Web 2.0 was when they started walling everything off and displaying only a few posts or lines of text at a time. They already viewed your posts and info as theirs and were actively trying to make CTRL+F and CTRL+C useless for the average non-technical person. This war on copying and pasting led to all sharing being pushed towards their sharing frameworks on Android and iOS. No longer were we sharing links, but rather apps and info inside of apps. Comments were only shown few lines at a time, or collapsed entirely to make it harder to find info.

  • Phones were still fun to mess with and hack back then. Now I just try to use my phone less overall. They're all the same garbage gilded in fools gold.

  • Why, so Zuck can stream back 8k footage of my bootyhole every time I take a shit?!

Right now I'm happy if I'm getting my advertised gig up and down. Any extra bandwidth would just be used by advertisers/spies to exfiltrate more data about me

  • People would rather talk in code and self-sensor than dump a fascist platform because that would be incoventient.

  • I love August Rush too. The emotion is so real!

The most embarrassing thing I've watched would be a romance-ish anime like High School of the Dead.

When it comes down to it though, I'm open to almost anything. I worked in the entertainment industry for a decade and I've enjoyed everything from silly cartoons to epic IMAX masterpieces.

  • Exactly, when you have as much power as a politician or c-level executive, you should be the first one to have every waking moment streamed online for anyone to see. Your bank accounts should be 100% public, and you should have to share your ID with 10 different companies just to buy a pack of tictacs. Why? Because everything you do will impact many, many people and you have incentives to lie, cheat, and steal.

  • Good to know. I remember them being decent a few years ago when I picked up my most recent monitor. Reliability, burn in, and adware are actually some of my biggest concerns, especially in the era of OLED and surveillance advertising.

  • I think rtings buys their own test units, though they only do a few categories: tvs, monitors, etc.

Consumer reports is okay for non-tech items, though companies have caught on and once they're on top of the list, they make revision that makes the product much cheaper and shittier and sell it under the original name. You can see it in the comments when people buy the same thing after it has been the best for a bit. Once a company is #1, they enshittify so it's better, in my opinion, to buy rising stars rather than the soon-to-enshittify incumbent.

  • I can chime in for Bazzite. It's imperfect, but I've blown up my fair share of aliens and they make playing your games on Linux really easy compared to anything else I've used. I can even stream the game from my desktop to a laptop in my bedroom via sunshine/moonlight which Bazzite helps you install as SteamLink doesn't play nice with Bazzite.

  • That's cool. 99spokes does that for bicycles and I've found it useful in that respect. Would be cool to compare all of the cars I ever had like that.

  • I drove a small truck at one point. Think a late 90s Tacoma, Ranger, or something like that. I don't want an F250. I don't want a Ram 3500. I just want to be able to haul a bed full of bikes to the MTB trail and help my friends move a washing machine.

  • Protip, never ask a Phil major questions, unless you want them to pose more questions. I think the very question itself assumes we can even properly define sentience. If we can, why does it have value as a result? Your home computer may not be sentient, but it's pretty smart, valuable, and could potentially have an equally large impact on the world (not sure about intentionality though). It's not that I'm certain no LLM is sentient (though I'm pretty sure) as much as I see greedy people steering the hype to their benefit in order to exploit others. The whole thing is manufactured to cheapen humanity in comparison to tech. I am very opinionated so you may see it differently.

  • We should all mean this. Truly the logically dominant date format.

  • Yep, if you tell an AI to do something, you are at least partially to blame for whatever it does. They shouldn't be able to avoid responsibility that easily.

That's kind if what Germany told Google. "If you have AI write your search summaries, you are responsible for checking its work and liable for its mistakes.
