  • We use it to discipline and sync chip scale atomic clocks, and power them without draining their batteries. We just happen to use ethernet cables for the connection. And each clock pulse distributor is rackmounted and has 48 rj45 ports.

  • Turn my basement into properly approved living space, increasing the value of my house by roughly 33%. Then it's time to renegotiate my mortgage rate.

  • At work we have this proprietary piece of hardware that has many rj45 connectors that delivers PoE and a clock pulse synced to GPS. More than once people have called me asking if this ethernet switch they found in my stash of spares is broken or something. More than once I've had to explain to them that what they're holding is PoE but without the E.

  • No. Closest thing we have is a Germany Cabinet, as we bought a large set from a German manufacturer last year. It's more high end than our everyday stuff, and mostly use it when we have people over and birthdays and stuff.

When I hear "China Cabinet" I think of somewhere easily visible and with glass doors so that they're also on display when not in use. Ours ate hidden in the back along with other stuff we don't use all that often.

  • Saved you a click: It was the underlying mpeg-related patents used by the DivX codec. Filed by Siemens AG.

I remember back in the day that this was why everyone preferred xvid instead.

  • So did Ultima Online almost a decade earlier.

Why is UO so often forgotten when people talk about early online play? I've even heard Everquest described as the first MMO.

  • He's tried nothing and is all out of ideas.

  • 3d printing sounds like the way to go, but there are plenty of services and individuals that can print for you.

  • If the letter count was the main concern, I wouldn't call it a mouthful now, would I? Or does it take you six times longer to say "sleeve" than "I"?

  • "Lgbtq+ rights" is a mouthfull. We should call it rainbow-rights instead.

  • Girl, you thought he was a manBut he was a muffinHe hung around till you foundThat he didn't know nuthin'

  • Factorio and Project Hail Mary.

...and that's how the Factorio expansion "Space Age" was born.

  • Like, if you took a morning-after pill, you can take an after-morning-after pill?

  • "This is a CD player, not a DVD player. You've been scammed"

    • 90% Empty beer can
    • 100% An SFP+ module (most likely for multimode fiber)
    • 80% prioritypass card that'll give you free entry to a nice airport lounge on the opposite side of the planet
    • 20% a wedge of blue cheese
    • 100% a guitar pick
  • Imma move there and start DeepDish Linux (forking Hannah Montana Linux, obviously) just for the media attention
