  • I've interviewed people before, and am doing so again next week. I often ask why a candidate is interested in working for my org, because I want to known that their personal goals/ambitions are at least somewhat aligned with the org. Hiring someone and then finding out that they don't fit sucks.

    Many job ads receive tens or hundreds of applications. They want the best candidate. If you're not specifically keen, they'll probably go for someone who shows some interest. I know I have picked people who are interested over more qualified but disinterested people before.

  • I'm a spaces guy, but agree on the 4. A coder told me decades ago that 4 is better than 2 because if your code starts wrapping due to too many indents you should be refactoring it into functions anyway.

  • Yeah, that's a cool knot. I don't think I'd use it for a load that needed to be properly secure though. I'd worry about it vibrating loose

  • No problem. Clove hitch and a truckie's hitch is all you need. Super easy to learn. You can even get away with just a clove hitch and a figure of eight.

    I'd also recommend learning a bowline, because it's super useful, and if you figure out how it works, it makes other knots easier to understand and learn.

  • This is not wholly without a true foundation. Capacities can store charge for some time and e.g. keep data in ram (I think this is only true of older types of memory now though?)

  • Right, for me "documents" is just "personal files". I used to have it called that, but then I just had and empty dir sitting there unused..

    I don't like putting things in home because then files get mixed up with config and cache and crap, and it's more annoying to search

  • This is the way. Everything I created in folder in Documents. Everything I downloaded in downloads. Home should be otherwise empty, except for all the left-over dot-folders that old software leaves lying around.

  • Absolutely. Some under a work subfolder, some under various other sub-folder depending on what they contain.

    I have 3 close friends who are doctors, I have zero doubt they would jump to help in an emergency (I've seen them all do it at various times, though not on planes).
