  • i know you didn't mean this in a literal way but you challenged me to find anything you complain about and it was literally your 2nd latest post on pemmy where you complained about worker's miscalibrated tools. this is just peak irony to me

  • i bought a new 2.1 system for my pc a few years ago and there isnt much that changed compared to the old ones. so you don't have to fear as much enshittification as in other Logitech branches

  • how about first getting programs to put dotfiles into the .config folder (opposed to .programname) instead of adding more folders that are inconsistent over distros for multiple years before the point of a default for IDEs and CAD programs can even be meaningfully made?

  • was the group actually unencrypted or are you just assuming that because it is the default setting in telegram?

  • i also have a mumble server but every once in a while we need streaming. what is your rtmp setup? i am thinking of mediamtx, but am annoyed by having to post the link to the stream every time and everyone needs to resize windows manually to fit all on ome screen.

  • what do you mean? like, not urls to your vorners, but I'd like to hear your version of the old imternet you say is still there? you mean small blogs? custom made homelages?

  • b/c they all fail as everyone is going for ai marketed cr*p

  • what do you like better? planning on hosting opencloud next

  • i have a similar setup but am facing a storage issue now. is a usb-c external case for 2 HDDs in RAID1 any good or how do you handle that?

  • it "just" has to be someone with a good idea they are passionate about. you think of only hosted services, but there is also the option of a normal file, syncthing sended back and forth aside from selfhosted options such as collabora just asan example.

wdym even catbox? this is just a filehoster...

  • i see many comments here suggesting other paid proprietary tools and just want to add that you should please consider exclusively FOSS solutions. replacing google with another company saying: "trust me, bro", just does not cut it anymore. the internet is filled with stories of professionals losing work, because insert big tech company suspended their accounts, trains their AI without disclosure or just leaked your credentials and apologizes by makung a whoopsie post and suggesting you just change your password.

the more open, local and established your setup is, the less you are going to have those headaches and can focus on actually working, even if it means a little more hurdles with setup and less flashy features.

    don't be a sheep

  • did you even read the article?

  • you pointing out "mainly" just shifts his question to the next time he decides to host a service, which is what i meant to point out.

they might state that, but upstream syncthing says that the feature is intentionally hidden in the advanced settings and they plan to deprecate it.

  • thank you for your elaborate guide! i ended up installing vimium, as i am restricted in my vrowser choice at work.

  • thanks for the tip, i tried it and it feels amazing! it is just a bit janky with not working in new tabs, but i can work around that with the "old" browser based keyboard shortcuts.

  • apart from syncthing not being a backup solution, the question revolves around seldhosting im general, not purely on photo backup.

  • how do you actually navigate a browser tho? i always feel like i need the mouse for that...

  • "dont always... when it hits the fan" is a little too elusive compared to a legal document you agreed to online imho so i will not necessarily hold to that

  • you agree to legal mediation other than a court in their terms of service, so... not really

  • i don't think the need for a plain calendar warrants a resource monster such as nextcloud.
