    The efforts in the comment sections were towards this end - to try to stop the harm he was doing.

  • You're missing my point. If I drew a comic and signed my name on it, and some jerk removed my signature, it doesn't matter if I get credit in the comments. Because that image is going to get reposted elsewhere, and my name is no longer with it.

    In some cases he even used AI to "upscale" comics, and it made changes to the art. All of his posts need to be nuked. They're poisoning the well.

  • I just read the whole rant, and it's clearly and without a doubt generated by an LLM.

    The grammar and spelling are too good. It's also too coherent, but more importantly it's too cohesive. It meanders a lot but eventually returns to the point. It's trying to present a formulaic argument the way LLMs always do, and in a way that Trump never has.

    It also hits on points that Trump would never mention, like that Sandy Hook wasn't a hoax.

    And just in case there's any doubt, it's loaded with em dashes.

  • Very glad to see this. Obviously this whole thing is happening because of that one troll who was removing attributions from comics. So my question for you is: can you go ahead and remove everything he ever posted here?

    Because as long as the unattributed versions are sitting out there, they're liable to be reposted elsewhere, making it harder to find the real versions. It should be stopped at the source as soon as possible.

    Other than that, I see that everyone else is already on you about the PG thing.

    My origin story on Lemmy is that the first thing I ever posted here was an original comic that I hadn't put anywhere else. It was a Lemmy exclusive, which obviously is not a thing people really do. It got removed because it had the word "balls" in it.

    So I posted it to reddit. It hit the front page immediately, and it's been reposted tens of thousands of times across the internet since then. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I think that means it was some premium content, which seems like something the largest webcomic community on Lemmy would want.

    Anyway, I'm actually fine with not allowing full-blown nsfw content here, but "balls" should be allowed.

  • I get that this is how politics works, that a certain amount of disassociation is part of the package, but holy shit how ghoulish is this.

    If in the course of my job I inadvertently or intentionally caused the deaths of hundreds of schoolchildren, I'd like to think I wouldn't then complain about the possibility of losing that job.

    Imagine having so little regard for human life. I know there are a disproportionate number of sociopaths in government, but they can't all be sociopaths, right? Some of them must just be racists, and some of them must be able to delude themselves that much, but still. What the fuck.

  • Grinding can be fun. Grinding with a combat system as archaic as FF1 is unfun. There's not enough there to enter a flow state. Art is subjective, but that grind is as close to objectively boring as possible.

  • This discussion always makes me think of Super Meat Boy, which is a perfect case study for how punishing difficulty can be incorporated without poisoning the experience for the player. SMB is hard as fuck and demands impossible precision from the player, but there's no punishment for failure. You die, you try again immediately. It makes the two second door animation in Mega Man feel like an eternity.

    And when it came out, it felt strangely innovative. Like, it's obvious in hindsight, but just reducing the punishment to 0 turns it from an exercise in frustration into a game that trains the player to perfection without holding their hand.

  • I did get it! Also most of the other UFO 50 merch on that site, like the t-shirt and the pins. Great t-shirt. Better fit than the Tunic one I got from there.

    I was slightly disappointed that the guide didn't reveal another layer of the meta-narrative like I'd hoped, but it's still a neat object and very well made.

  • I agree with your critiques of modern games, especially the part about floaty anticipation-based gameplay.

    But I gotta disagree about Final Fantasy 1 being harder. It's not hard; it's just tedious. There's no beating it without grinding, and the grind is the same thing, over and over, with no variance. If tedium is your thing, great, but the biggest barrier to beating Final Fantasy 1 is boredom, and I don't think that's good game design in any decade.

    So just to be clear, I'm not talking about difficulty in a fair game. Bubble Bobble is possibly my favorite NES game of all time, because even though it's stupid hard, the controls are so tight that every death is your own fault.

    I also have nostalgia for these old games. I'd just never try to argue that they were better from a design standpoint. The industry has come a long way. Standards are higher, and the artform has grown.
