    I lost braincells reading this. The entire point of open source software is to have it visible and auditable, aka the exact opposite of security through obscurity.

    If you want to bash OS's for relying on STO, go after iOS and Windows. Those OS's, being closed source, are the ones relying on it

  • Keep in mind that the rate of errors caught by AI will not be consistent. It will drop off over time.

    While I'm no fan of AI, that has nothing to do with it. Adding AI to error detection suites is (mostly) fine so long as you don't remove more tradional methods like code review, manually set up unit tests, and properly reviewing each failed test instead of just letting the AI slop in a patch.

    My point is that any test you add to an existing codebase is going to catch a decent number of issues at first, then over time it will drop off as pre-existing issues get resolved. Then you'll be left with the lower rate of new issues from updates.

    AI isn't a silver bullet. It (sometimes) is another tool in the toolbox.

  • This approach works for a lot of different topics.

    For example, I'm an atheist. If someone I'm talking to is just brings up their faith I'm not going to go out of my way to start an arguement.

    But if they're start being argumentative, like coming up with bad faith arguments to bash gays or atheists, then I'll push back. Usually gently at first, but if they keep going then the kiddie gloves come off.

    Thankfully, most people I interact with (at least irl) know to not be an asshole. I get that not everybody has that luxury though.

  • It literally is not on their page. GrapheneOS only supports Google Pixel phones right now

    There's a LineageOS rom that works for Samsung Galaxy S10e's, and that's all I know of

    I was referring to current governments, and even noted that revolutions change that.

    "Aquisition of Sovereignty" doesn't fit that definition.

    "Date of last Subordination" is closer, but still not correct (US is #3 oldest in this category btw)

    Check the 2nd section titled "List of countries by current form of government". Aka, exactly what I was referring to. And it turns out that the only country the US government is younger than is San Marino.

    Turns out that colonialism, 2 World Wars, and the Cold War weren't particularly conducive to longevity of governments

  • I'm not trying to invalidate your experience. Just pointing out it's apparently really rare. It's theorized to be one of the pressures that results in all mammals having only 7 neck vertebrae, including guraffes
