  • No video call or screen share either from what I can tell, which is uhhh pretty major to day the least. That said, it's not like I need only use one platform at a time. I'll probably get on that and start using it and hope that they add those things in the future. But yeah, I'm not sure if I would call it close to Discord right now.

  • Yeah I think about this with drone swarms a lot. One asshole with even a moderately sophisticated video-game like interface to control a fleet of drones. It unlocks a whole new ratio of haves:have-nots as potentially sustainable in the long run. Horrifying. I've thought before it would be nice to write a short story about it but seems like a Torment Nexus moment

  • I actually have eaten straight up sugar+butter before as a little treat. Highly recommend it

  • Shit like this is why I refuse to consume any protein powder or supplement type stuff. That world is sketchy. At least I know what harm hot cheetos are doing to me

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to post thorough breakdowns of misleading information using your expertise. And extra beautiful because it goes against the dominant Lemmy circlejerk. I wish there was community full only of such behavior!

  • So I can use AI to group my tabs but I can't even group tabs in the first place on mobile? Epic prioritization

  • The Amazon reviews are also a trip

  • I never would have thought that was real if you didn't say so holy fuck

  • We legit just had the president call Pretti a terrorist for trying to help a lady off the ground, like last week

  • I am beginning to suspect that 90% of programming memes are made by beginners and 90% of the engagement with them is also from beginners. Maybe I'm just projecting. I remember seeing this stuff when I was starting and just assuming that must be how it is.

  • Yeah, I respect them more for sure. It gets tricky if I'm like, appointing someone for a one year period or something though, then I have to consider both the position and velocity.

  • Yeah I agree. I think the only refinement I'd add to this statement is that such people aren't even necessarily located in "good" territory. They have a velocity in the direction of goodness, but their position may still be in bad territory. And likewise there are people who are in good territory but have a velocity in the direction of bad territory. What a complicated world...

  • The horrible truth is many of the people who have the right opinion got there in the same stupid flawed ways as people who have the wrong opinion, and are deep down no better, but just accidentally appear to be so. These people just want what they want, they don't care if it makes sense, they don't care about validating their beliefs against reality or having logical arguments for their beliefs. They don't want to be know truth, they want what they already believe to be truth.

  • Yes I do think something like this would be nice. We don't need one giga search engine with a huge index of everything. Specialized search engines with genre specific indices would be more individually maintainable, and diverse

  • While I think it's shitty that they did this, part of me also kind of likes it. The most resilient form of web behavior includes bookmarking sites and discovering new sites by them linking to each other, and also via conversation with others online, rather than getting all your sites from a search engine. I get that search engines are useful for lots of things. But maybe this will help kick people's search engine addiction if they realize there's lots of good stuff out there that you can't trust a search engine to surface.

  • Not a psyop, and honestly I'm not even sure it's people being particularly stupid. Some of these people have very elaborate reasoning leading them to this wrong behavior which is only subtly wrong. I am trying to have faith in people who generally agree with me. But it is disheartening to see so many of the divisive opinions here. It is also enlightening as to why the left intrinsically has more difficulty organizing than the right. Very tragic and frustrating

  • They're being sarcastic

  • I feel that if I made a list of the top 2000 most difficult to forget people, we would find that their average niceness is below that of a typical person tbh
